I think more people would, because people don't like condoms because they are condoms. Also, even at planned parenthood where things are cheap/free - abortions still cost $400 no matter how poor you are.
And in foreign countries, like Africa, birth control/medical attention is not widely available.

Besides, Deanna, my point isn't about children, it's about changing the way people think about global issues and the consumption of resources - especially americans. Children not starving is a side effect of that. And, nothing is so simple as to happen overnight, but the sooner we change, the sooner the world can change for the better, including our own country. Changing people's thinking takes time, but it also takes effort. And we could be putting in a lot more effort, IMO.

That may be harder to accomplish than stopping people from having children

I agree that a shift in thinking and the way we live is needed, I often think about the choices I make and the things I do and their effect on the environment etc - but I do little to change my behaviours and I know that.

But I know I'm not the worst of the problem - when I was living in a dorm in DC I saw things that made me sick. Namely on move-out day girls who were throwing away whole bedding sets, bags with price tags still on them, full bottles of shampoo etc - they were throwing them in the TRASH when only a few feet away say a "clothes for the homeless" bin.

Many people are wasteful and thoughtless and it makes me sad - but really it seems that things are only getting worse rather than better

Well, I've only been to see her 3 times. She does seem to be starting to say more than that.

Number two, you need a new career, clearly. Have you ever taken one of those career aptitude tests ? They can be pretty illuminating. They kind of assess not only the bent of your natural talents, but what you enjoy. The first one I did in high school was spot on. If you do what you love, money usually comes, because it doesn't feel like work. You aren't too old to go back to school and start over, so do some investigating and go for it. You deserve to get what you want.
I've never done a career aptitude thing. Someone recommended the book "What Color Is Your Parachute?" but I have no idea if it's any good. I have thought seriously about going back to school, and think I probably will, but I need to figure out "what I want to do" first.

That's encouraging. Thanks.

RE: never having enough. That just isn't true for me. I don't care about having a lot of money or an extravagant lifestyle, I just don't want to have to slave away at a 9 to 5 job until I'm 70. There are other things I want to do with my time, namely artistic and spiritual pursuits.

true. I make probably close to $22/hour and sometimes I'd rather flip burgers. and I'll impart this bit of wisdom...it's true what they say...find something you love or at least half-ass enjoy...cause it totally makes a difference. I like what I do, but I can't see myself doing this the rest of my life or even like 10 more years...by then it will be the only kind of experience I really have...what's a girl to do then? the legal profession is a great one to be in. great money, great benefits and awesome experience, but talk about stressfull...I mean, jeez.

like my and my other paralegal friends say...if I can ever get out of the legal field, I ain't ever goin' back.

Wouldnt it be great if you could make Drag your career. Youre certainly good enough to do it from what I've seen.
