All Gone

jannieC · #1 07-08-2006, 04:28 PM

The other day I decided to "clean out" my computer. I organized all of our digital photos, and I *thought* I merged all of my music into one big folder. I just sat down a few minutes ago because I was (finally) going to burn a CD- only to find out that I inadvertantly erased my entire collection. Every single Stevie/FM/ANYONE song or video is completely gone. Years and years of collecting. I am so devastated. And pissed at myself.

I'm so, so sorry. I could send you everything I have if that would help. Did you lose any main videos, like Mirage or Belladonna HBO? I mean, that you didn't have copies of. I have a ton of music.

Geez, that's terrible.

No to Mirage, but yes to Belladonna HBO- I'm DYING! I wouldn't even know where to start as far as what to ask for. I need to recover from my trauma right now, but maybe I'll make this my request thread, if you guys don't mind.

several years back (Around 1999-2000) when I somehow deleted a complete "Real Audio" music website that I spent the better part of a year building/constructing...Let's just say my 'then' keyboard went into a somewhat short vertical/altitude orbit.

And like you I was pissed at myself for not having it backed up on my server (Unlike my current websites).

If you haven't written over the hard drive areas that stored the music you should be able to recover them hopefully. Only the file headers will have been deleted with any luck. There are a few products on the market that can recover lost data I'm sure.. Have a look around the net, there may be something that will work.

Let me know if I can post anything for you.

that's what I was going to say.

Jannie, I'm so sorry. this has happened to me before and now I have an external hard drive. I would call a repair shop and see what they suggest and then if all is lost, we will figure a way to get your collection back up. I could send you my external hard drive to load on your computer and then send back to me. we'll figure it out. PM me if you need to.

Thank you so much- I'll let you know if I'm unable to fix this. madformac and I are on a mission right now...

Janet, stay on The Ledge.

I'm going to pm you a way to hopefully recover these files without software but it will take me a few minutes to type it out in laymans terms.

Not moving. And thank you for understanding the need for laymen's terms. Are there terms even less than laymen?

My new friend madformac tried to help me, but to no avail. So, I am going to start from scratch and start collecting again. I'm telling myself this may be fun.

So what I was thinking was- maybe everyone can post their favorite Mp3 or video here. And maybe some newbies can benefit from this as well. Thanks to everyone and especially madformac for trying so hard to help.

I am sorry to hear this - it's happened to me before, usually just before I think I should back everything up! The external hard drive is a good idea, for the next time.
