I've just been watching the first half of Portugal v Holland (Portugal leading 1 - 0 but have had a man sent off)

The commentator was describing a replay of the Portuguese goal and he said "smart twirl by" I looked up straight away - was Stevie Nicks playing for Portugal? No - she failed a fitness test (broken finger nail)

Dear me England played rubbish tonight! However thank goodness for David Beckham, he sure can produce the goods when they need him to. The Argy/ Mexican match was fabulous to watch..England need to get their arses into gear to get anywhere near as good as that.

Netherlands - Portugal
That wasn't football anymore, was it? That was war.

good luck England against what's left of the Portuguese team after all those red cards

I didn't think we were too bad tonight.

We kept the ball better and didn't wilt in the heat.

But yes thank goodness for old golden balls!

Gail

Come on England

I think the ref lost the plot a bit. But he did a magnificent job of remembering who'd been booked (poor old Graham Poll couldn't quite manage that the other night)

It certainly makes our life a bit easier with two suspensions on the Protuguese side.

Like Gail said, you guys have got Argentina up next, which I predict will be the end of the line for the hosts!!
Thisis so much fun though. We only get to do this every 4 years

Why do I get the feeling that some fans of other countries' teams have a problem with acknowledging that another, previously underrated team is playing much better than expected and that England hasn't yet shown the form it is truly capable of? Let's face it, the thing some English fans are really scared of is the prospect of playing against a strong German team, especially when comparing the matches England vs Sweden and Germany vs Sweden If the English team really shows its talents, THEN the Germans will have something to be afraid of.

BTW, DavidMn, thanks for the support ! I'm totally surprised by the German performance so far, too - and I don't want to come across as a smart a**, but it is Deutschland
Another Germany fan!!! We're gonna sneak up on Argentina just like we did against Sweeden.

I don't think you snuck up on Sweden - more like smashed them straight in the mouth!

So does that mean Sweden is out?

Oh and DavidMn, it's "S-W-E-D-E-N" or, "Sverige" if you're Swedish .

Yup Sweden are on the way home.

Italy just beat Australia 1 - 0 (penalty in the 94th minute)

Italy-Australia was yet another game ruined by the referee. When are the officials going to be as good as the players?

unbelievably cruel way to go out!

i´d say even though england hasn´t played glamorous games, they have played well, only sweden has scored against them, which tells their game is in good balance though lack of strikers may prove to be a problem.
remember greece won european cup -04,even though nobody believed or liked their game.
