Sweden have finally scored against Paraguay - it took them 88 minutes, but it looks like that will send them through to the 2nd round. Poor old Paraguay can't make it through now, so unless Sweden lose to England AND Trinidad beat Paraguay (not very likely), Sweden will progress

Yay Sweden!

I'm overjoyed. I hope they do well.

Now did you read my "gobble" post?

Oh, and I forgot to add..."proper corners" = cute! I need to brush up on my British English.

I work with a very dear friend of mine who is from London. She was schooling me on all the bad words in British English yesterday. We were laughing so hard we were crying. For instance, "gobble?" WTF?!!?!
'Gobble' is a great word. You guys don't use it? You're seriously missing out Careful how you use it though...

exactly. Uh, no we don't use that word. We have another phrase for that one, actually, we have many phrases for that. Oh, and I didn't know that "wanker" was actually a bad thing to call someone. I thought it was just kind of a cute little phrase that meant idiot or something. Apparently it's worse than that, but noone can give me a translation and oh, how I do love that word.

A w*nker is literally someone who erm well how can I put this? Masturbates (there I said it)

It's taken to mean an idiot but it's not a word generally used in polite society.

Wanker is a great word - very well-used among angry motorists when being cut up or attacked by psychotic cyclists or something. Like 'idiot' but much stronger, and definitely not for polite company!!

Translating it is a toughie if I want to stay polite... wanking is a euphemism for keeping oneself sexually satisfied in the absence of a suitable partner So wanker is not a nice thing to be called.

I'll never forget that Wanker was Peggy Bundy's maiden name in "Married With Children" - I recall being thoroughly shocked when I heard that

Amen to that!! I was on the edge of my seat the whole game through, we were so close to scoring many times before that goal finally came. Ljungberg is now officially known as the saviour over here

I dont know why the USA got to the quarter finals last year and Claudio Reyna was included in the team of the tournement.

Could it be that in the US you don't really care for sports you can't totally dominate?

Whereas we Brits love sports we never win at. Last British mens singles champion at Wimbledon? Fred Perry

Um, yeah. What part of that don't you understand? No, really, I've never given it much thought, but maybe you're on to something there. I mean, it is one of the only sports that the whole world shares, you'd think we could get into it, but you know, Americans are known for their rogue alienation from the rest of the world

Yes, I think you're right. I'm not a soccer fan at all(I love American football), but I did watch that women's soccer thing a few years ago when the Americans won. If the U.S. was good enough to win the World Cup, I think more Americans would care. We like winners.
