Shoe snob!

I live in a college town and everyone and their mother wears flip flops in all these instances you mention. I really think it all depends on context. Like, there are many restaurants in Austin where flip-flops are totally appropriate and commonplace, and did I mention the heat? MY GOD THE HEAT of Austin summers and autumns...it's really an abomination against humanity. Again I shall state that if the flip-flops are cute and coordinate with the rest of the outfit, then go for it.

Yes. I guess that is why I don't get the thong problem. Same thing, college towns, hot weather. Add beach/river. Well, I get it with the pic BTFLCHLD posted.

Yeah, must be a regional thing. I had a friend from N.Y.C. who thought my sandals were horrendous... SANDALS!! we're not talking flip-flops but leather sandals! Anyway he said he was loathe to wear any shoes that showed that much of his feet and didn't understand why people down here do it. I figured it was an N.Y.C. thing .

But that doesn't make sense, because it's really hot there in the summer, too.
And remember Sex in the City? Those chicks always wore sandals. Maybe boys in NYC.

Bringing your dog with you into a place of business. Other than pet-friendly places like Petsmart.

We had a girl bring one of those little rat dogs into our medical office. She couldn't understand why we asked her not to do that again. And the other day, I saw someone walking around with her dog inside Mr Second's bargain outlet store.

That's become really popular out here. People bring their dogs to class, to stores, to restaurants (that's the worst, I think), basically anywhere and everywhere they go. I get that little dogs are convenient to carry and it's fun to take your pet with you places, but I hate when people dress them up in stupid little hats and shoes (I can deal with a shirt or something but come on) or stick them in their purses all day. They're animals, not fashion accesories.

I don't get all the flip-flop hate . Man, you guys are tough. I think they look silly with formal clothes, or to worn to work, but I wear them with jeans almost every day. They're simple and comfortable, it's the hippie in me, etc. However I do agree it's tacky if 1) the platform is like 5 inches high and they have playboy bunny decals anywhere on them 2) you drag your feet or make that annoying slapping sound with them or 3) they're white, unless you only plan on wearing them once. Because I don't care how careful you try to be, or how clean you think your feet are, they will get all dirty and marked up and have those yucky black foot stains.

^^^

I just recalled you from Vegas as I was reading and your flip flops came readily to mind, I totally remember them.

I was thinking further about this thong thing (I already was obsessed with perfect thongs, so it's natural. P.S., I'm currently lusting after these two pairs. I can't buy either right now, but even if I could, I can't decide which I want!)

Anyway, I was thinking of Tracye b/c she is my age, but between like, 1990 and 1994 was the whole neo hippy/grunge thing, and everyone went very casual, it really took hold here in Cali, too. I dunno, I was thinking that might have been a contributing factor. We were in highschool/graduating then, just the age to care about fashion or whatever.

It seems like everyone has these Star Trek headsets now but I think they look ridiculous and tacky.
