I am sorry that a small group of people have negatively affected your place of work, but I strongly feel that does not merit racism in any way, shape or form.
My boss is a wanker...however I don't hate all men because of it.
This reminds me that I encountered some pretty extreme sexism in Kenya. I was at the airport leaving and I didn't want to put my film through the x-ray machine. It had already been through a few of them due to flying back and forth to Mombasa. I'd already been through 2 on the way into this airport. Both of which allowed me to keep my film out of the x-ray. But this last man would not. I asked him in slightly different terms about 5 times even telling him the last 2 x-ray security people did not make me put it through. He just said he is not them. I know that Kenyan men can be extremely sexist so I asked my friend Arra to ask him for me. Arra is 6'4". He didn't even have to say a word to the man, he just waved that it was fine and the film could go through! I was speechless.

I didn't really encounter racism in Africa though. I did suspect an undercurrent of a strange kind of a reverse racism where, due to colonialism, there is some reverence to whites along with the resentment. It was strange when my roommate and I would go to our hotel bar and be the only whites there. But it was only uncomfortable in the beginning and we never had any problems. I don't think it is anything like it would be for two black people to walk into a white American bar in the south.

I have a good one for you. WHen I was traveling for Stevie last summer, I pulled into this gas station outside Mobile Alabama and When I came out of the store this pickup full of big southern Jethroes was filling up behind me. As I was ready to get i, I heard one of them point to the rainbow triangle sticker on my bumper and say "DOnt that mean he's a queer?" My first thought was how the hell do you have enough brains to figure that out. My second was too bad he's not gay or I could really have some fun!
