Respectfully - I can't even believe someone used that as any kind of argument. It was so...blatantly illogical and unrealistic. Almost a weird made up world, where things aren't at all like they are here, on our world. I can't even believe someone thought of it. All of population turning gay? No one having kids? The world population dying out because of gay marriage? It defies all reason, those are things that would never, ever, ever, ever happen. Not even in the farthest realms of imagining all possibilities. It seems a complete lack of scientific, hereditary, and behavioral knowledge is the only thing that could lead to that conclusion.

Hmm, I guess that wasn't exceptionally respectful, but it was the best I could do.

I know My Grandmother used the same argument about civil unions when they came into law in New Zealand. Its like, HELLO! Marriage is not only about having children, marriage today is more about proving and showing your love for each other, and securing your rights as a couple - a partnership - its not "lets get married so I can pop out a few babies"!!!

^^^^ well, also the fact that not all, or even a majority of people are going to "turn" gay because the gov't says it is okay to be married. That was the most absurd part to me.
Grandmas think weird things, I've noticed that. Once mine called me, and was talking about Will & Grace (I hadn't seen it yet). She was all "why do gay people have to talk about it all the time, wave it in everyone's face? My best friend in highschool was gay, everyone knew, but we didn't have to talk about it."

People who think that you can be recutied into being gay need their head examined...

People are strange aren't they!!?? My mother said something similar to what your Grandmother said, but about Brokeback Mountain. She would not go and watch it because of what it was, and I told her I was offended by that, and she said "Well, I wouldn't mind if it was just suggested, and we didn't have to see anything"

How about the rest of us who essentially made the same point? Or are we all on ignore? Or are you just trolling? After all you did say once that it was fun to come here and "stir the ****."

Sadly we were unable to marry for huge financial reasons once he was diagnosed with inoperable cancer, thanks to the negatives we would have faced in terms of medical coverage for both of us. Sometimes I wonder just why gay people want to get married, but I wish them the freedom to experience the negatives and benefits to the status denied to me and the man who loved me. He passed away early into this year and while I say in my heart we were married before God and everybody, I do know the pain of being denied the ability to marry and I would not wish it on others.
I'm so sorry you lost your husband. Life can be really cruel.

Yes of course it's okay to share, thank you. Those protesters are with Fred Phelps who's an extremist and a fanatic. All of his "congretion" are family members. They are a twisted bunch for sure.

It's a righty talking point that people are unthinkingly regurgitating.

Yeah but it's so hot. Who wants to miss that? That's probably the issue, they think it's hot but can't go there because it's "unacceptable". Too bad for them!

I agree with someone a few pages back who said with all this talk about the "sanctity of marriage" why is no one addressing the alarmingly high divorce rate?

Why is it ok for Brittney HoSpears to have a drunken wedding, quickie divorce AND Anullment - but it's NOT ok for two men or two women who have had a long and loving partnership to marry? It's absurd! And it's blatantly a religious agenda - if anyone can give me ONE logical, well thought out and NON-religious reason against gay marriage then please - do so now.

If same sex marriages were the norm- if we all were married to the same sex- our hereditary line would vanish. We could not develop offspring. We as human beings would vanish. Those that favor gay marriage are only looking at the human rights issue. I am pointing out the evolutuonary isse.

I have presented my opinions on this issue before, and received a ton of critcism, as would be expected I'll receive it again.

There are alot of great people in here, gay and srtaight. My intention is not to create anger, but to present an opposing view.

I think this post belongs in the "Lame" thread .

I'm sorry, it's just that your argument is about as paper-thin as I've read in a long time. I'm just starting to read this thread and I'm sure that many other people have already addressed your post so I will keep reading so as not to respond like someone else (probably has).

Ha! Last night on the Daily Show Jon was arguing with Bill Bennet [] about this very issue. Jon said, "50% of marriages don't end in divorce because of gay" it was great. It was like, don't lecture gays on the sanctity of marriage when hetero couples can't get it together. That sob Bennett didn't have a leg to stand on.
