I still want to know why none of them are upset about the divorce rate among heterosexual couples. Talk about ruining the sanctity of marriage.

The fact of the matter is that the Religious Right feels that they have the "Word of God" on their side, when they really have no such thing.

Well, this went better than I anticipated. Thank you all for the contructive remarks.

My point is so simple, I guess many are reading too much into it. Simply put, in the very beginning of time if all.... robins were to take a same sex mate, there would be no robins today. That's all...

True enough -- but allowing gay marriage isn't going to stop straight marriages or end procreation as we know it. So I don't understand why anyone would be against it.

Or the fact that affordable child care is non-existent. And working mothers still have to battle their bosses to take care of their children.

I understand that point. But it's impossible, and that is one of the many reasons why I love diversity.

I'm also not seeing the relevance your point has to our society. We're talking about a hypothetical situation concerning the beginning of life on this planet. What does that have to do with an FMA in 2006?

Also, do you really think that some (if not many) of those robins wouldn't reproduce? You're not addressing what others have said so far in this thread--that gay people have children just as straight people do.

Exactly. It's true you need a girl robin and a boy robin to make a baby robin, but how is that an argument against the US government recognizing gay marriage?

You are absolutely right. There are so many thousands of things that our politicians (and we as citizens) should be concerned about and working to fix. No one needs to be wasting time sticking their noses into someone else's lovelife.

Which is pretty much what I put on this petition. I mean really, you have to be f*cking kidding me with this nonsense in 2006? It's freaking crazy.

I wrote an editorial for this week's Prince George's Sentinel in which I condemn this attack on the rights of the gay community. The good thing is I'm the managing editor of the paper, so I know it's going to run.

It's not much, but at least I'm getting something off my chest.

Nicely done! I think writing and talking about it are the best actions we can take.
