There's a little taqueria here run by a mom & pop from Mexico. It's very clean & cheap, too. Mama takes your money & papa prepares your food to order. Great horchata, too! There's no better thirst quencher than horchata over ice with nutmeg sprinkled atop.
Those are the ones I almost always eat at because there are about 3-5 good ones very close to my house. They are so cheap, too, and always have really good salsa fresca. I definitely prefer them. The burritos weigh about 4 pounds and cost 5 dollars. Or you can get the 2 pounder for 3 dollars...
Okay, just wanted to talk about mexican food with David. We're pretty spoiled here in California as far as Mexican food goes, I think. I can't throw a stone without hitting a good place.

Yet when I spent the summer in the bay area I couldn't find a decent place. I'm attached to the Southern New Mexico stuff...man...you haven't eaten until you've eaten at some hole-in-the-wall place in New Mexico - the seedier the better

I'm really excited to try the food where I'm moving - there's a huge Mexican population - and I saw lots of little seedy Mexican joints..woohoo!

NOpe nope - fully sighted - I did see many - and I tried a few - none were any good Perhaps I tried the wrong ones...I figured with so many Mexicans around (I was in San Jose) there was bound to be good food - but the Tortillas were like sour...tortilla should never ever be sour.

Well, true. I've never heard of a sour tortilla.

But you southwesterners & Texans are so persnickety with your Mexican food. You guys think you're the only ones in the States who understand real Mexican food! You guys seem to forget that California was Mexican before it was American!

I'd make a bad Mexican food maven because it just isn't my favorite cuisine. It's essentially a peasant's food (although so is what we think of as Greek food & Turkish food & Mideastern food & so many other cuisines), & it has a certain "thrown-together" quality, what with the beans & the rice & the back end of the bull. My favorite Mexican restaurants have that high Spanish, or Castilian, touch--that ranchero flavor from the Old World.

but even that, ehh ... it's good every once in a while. But give me big slabs of quivering sashimi any day & every day over that.

As far as at sporting venues, nothing has ever topped a Rubio's fish taco I had in Sandiego at a Padres game. MMMMM

These places are all over Austin too . Like Amber said about Cali, you can't throw a rock in any general direction without hitting a good Mexican food place in Austin. In fact, it's impossible.

That's because you're a food snob .

In Kenya my favorites were:

Samosas: dough filled with seasoned meat - usually lamb.

Mandazis: fried dough served with tea, their tea is full-bodied and fantastic. They also season their tea with masala, a mixture of ginger, cinamon, cloves, black pepper and a couple of other spices.

Their curry is excellent.

Chipate: flatbread just like Indian nan. They fold their curry/stew/whatever in a piece of the bread. Mmmm... to die for.

mmmm....I get these a lot at this weird little market. They're vegetarian, though. Still very good.
Kind of goes with my theory, though - if it's deep fried it will probably tast good.
Except you didn't say yours were fried. Is that the same? They told me they were Samosas.

Yes, they are deep fried I believe. Yes, they really are so good! Kenyans practically live on lamb. Other meats as well. Twice my Kenyan friends had bags of meat they were eating from. It's too much. I once asked George "what's in the bag" and he sheepishly answered "meat". It was too funny. Everywhere you eat you get toothpics. People constantly have toothpics in their mouths.

Makes sense, everyone has type O blood. Their body uses and processes meats more easily, and should eat more than other blood types.
Yep.
