my family consists of people who have absolute pure 100% hatred for any/all things that could be considered with leaning towards the left...And the town we live in is worse than the family situation, Which is why I live here, just to annoy the living **** outta these uptight-narrow-minded-backwoods-Andy Griffin-loving-Bible-humping-homophobic-assclowns-who-are-majorly-Democrats (Sad, but true!!! If these idiots are mostly Democratic ya could've fooled me, because they fear the "L" word more than 2 terms of the one & only George W.Bush, the "L" word I am referring to is not "Lesbian", it's "Liberal"...But they're Democrats only because they are pro-Agricultural cow-tipping-cowchip-eating-drunk-on-Saturday-evening-on-their-knees-for-forgiveness-on-Sunday-morning-junior-high-dropouts!!!)

It's Oklahoma after all. Youre probably one of the few people there that has an open mind towards things of that nature. What's funny about those type of people is they'll call you commie for just disagreeing with them. You may not even be a left leaning person.

I finally saw this too on the plane to Kenya. I really liked it though parts were pretty slow. That tent scene was hot, too hot for an airplane!

There are people in my family who are uncomfortable with homosexuality, not my immediate family, but my aunt and uncle were talking about how "weird" the film was. I didn't see it that way at all.

Isn't this based on a book and has anyone read it? Heath's character was not a talker so knowing his thoughts could be more interesting.

It is based on a short story - about 37 pages long - by Pulitzer prize winning author E. Annie Proulx. It was originally published in the New Yorker, and then included in a book of Proulx's short stories called At Close Range. Since the success of the movie, it has been published in a tiny little volume itself. You get a bit more insight into his character from her descriptions. But no, Ennis doesn't talk much. Pretty accurate for a cowboy type of the era. The story is great, and I have revisited it many times over the years.

I also saw it on a plane after 4 or 5 viewings in the theater. It really loses some impact on a tiny screen. The epic quality of the landscapes and the majestic score are best for big screen viewing if possible.

We purchased 'Brokeback' for our DVD collection at the library, when it was released in April, and I have to say I was concerned about what kind of reaction we might get from our patrons. My town has the highest concentration of Democrats in our county (which has a high ratio of Democrats to begin with), but we also have a very large Christian population... so the reaction could have gone either way.

I'm thankful to say that, so far, we haven't received a single complaint. In fact, we've had a long waiting list throughout these past two months, and additional patrons are still asking to be added to the list.

Myself, I still haven't watched the movie yet. I had read the short story, so I'm familiar with it, but my copy of the DVD arrived just a couple of days after my friend Wyatt passed away, so I haven't been in a frame of mind to watch it.

I liked "Transamerica" better than BBM. I am not sure what the "controversy" was all about really.
TA at least showed penis!
Oh yeah, BBM was a love story but IMO the film was/is endearing yet too slow.

Wow. Takes all kinds. I thought Trans was kind of cute, but far from a serious film. Though FH did a good job. That ending. It just kind of petered out and...it was like someone just shut off the camera.

Yes, it does take all kinds. It seemed serious to me. Yes, the scene faded to black but thankfully we can determine the outcome. Some films are cliff-hangers that I can't appreciate. BBM proved to be lovely for the scenary, an interesting tale, and it also gave me a newly found appreciation for Heath.
