Default Frontline: Sex Slaves

Did anyone see this documentary? I watched it last night and it was probably the most disturbing show I've ever seen. This is one of those thing that you want to believe doesn't really happen. Young women from poor Eastern European countries are lured to Turkey with an offer of good employment and then forced into prostitution slavery.

One particularly heartbreaking story was a woman who was able to escape, but then went back voluntarily to be a prostitute on her own because it was the only way she could make money to pay for her little brother's medical treatment.

I know this stuff goes on all over the world and it is just mindboggling that so little is being done. Police are bribed and do nothing. There is no justice--one guy who "sold" a woman to pimps for $1,000 was given 5 years probation as his sentence.

So much pure evil in the world.

Indeed. If I'm not mistaken, it's not illegal in Thailand for someone to solicit a minor.

Yeah, I saw this a few mos ago and it really disturbed me also. My heart broke for that poor guy trying to get his wife back, and then once he did, she was probably such a different person than the one he'd known. And the girl who went back into it to try to pay for her brother's treatment, agh, so sad, and he died anyway. It seems the authorities just don't give a hoot and let it all slide; they probably get a cut of the action in more ways than one. Disgusting.

This is just one of the things that reminds us of two things:

- humanity sucks big time.
- here we are with the media completely focusing on what they think is more important, like immigration and polygomy...

Sex slaves should all be voluntary. But when you enslave someone & make him/her do your bidding, you are committing an immoral act.

Any exercise of one's will over another who does not desire it is an act of force & therefore an immoral act.

This includes government.

I read something very similar to this about poor Eastern European women being imported in much the same way for the World Cup soccer games this summer. They are being told that they are going to have legitimate job opportunities and once they get there, they're going to be forced into the sex trade there to "service" the World Cup crowd. I don't know how much of this is really true, but when I heard it it gave me chills. Those poor women, they have no clue what they are getting themselves into .

I don't understand why there isn't a major educational campaign in these countries telling women not to go to a foreign country for promises of work? There should be huge billboards and ads in the same papers where these scum advertise.

yeah, but I'm thinking these "campaigns" are super insidious and crafty so that women are literally hoodwinked into it. And imagine being poor and starving and needing to work so badly that you'd basically jump at any opportunity available . But you're right, there should be some kind of watchdog group or something that ferrets out these malevolent bastards exposing them for the filth that they are. Unfortunately, this whole industry is so ingrained and diffuse that it's nearly impossible to be rid of it and stop it completely.

Did anyone see the one that was far, far worse and haunts me to this day? It was actually a story about catching a Canadian murderer, he killed a prostitute, or some prostitutes...anyway, the way they found him was something like...the tapes he was making when he went to Thailand to have sex with...oh, they looked about five - year old girls? I guess he was making the tapes to sell. That happens all over there, and they showed the girls, and it was just...like their job...they were all "$20 for BJ, $40 for sex" and just ticking off their price list on their fingers like little professionals. Honestly, I wish I'd never seen that show. I'm sure I knew that that happened, in the back of my mind, but seeing it is just horrifying. Thinking about how many people go to a foreign country (or I dunno, the people who live there, too) specifically to sleep with children, it's just another market there. The fact that there are men who do that is what makes me horrified and uneasy and sickened. I know there's also a big market for little boys, as well. Guh. And in fact, there was a whole governmental ring from Argentina or some place like that that was busted awhile back. The whole gov't was trafficking young boys, for themselves. Something like that.
Humans suck so bad.

Unhappy

I have seen numerous documentaries on this very subject in every country possible. The human kind can be the ugliest of creatures.
