A DVD Audio release of Tusk is in the planning stages, although it will not include the second disc ("‘Never Make Me Cry’ has a lot of instruments that weren’t in the stereo mix," says McLees). A PBS documentary is also scheduled, but it will focus on the band’s contemporary studio and concert pursuits, not the storied catalog documents.

When the Rumours DVD-A came out, Ken Caillat mentioned that they were also planning one for Tusk.

I don't know what they mean by "not including the second disc" though. Do they mean the bonus disc from the CD reissue? It wouldn't make any sense whatsoever to release a half-Tusk DVD-A.

Yes that is what they they are talking about...the second disk with the demos and other material.

I remember this. Back in 2004, around the time that In The Meantime was going to be released, there was some talk about releasing DVD-Audio versions of Fleetwood Mac(the white album) & Tusk. Ken Caillat mentioned that they were finished & had been handed in to the record label. Nothing has happened since then. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that they've been shelved. I'm not even sure about the DVD-Audio format. Is anyone still releasing DVD-Audios? This article is from the Ice Magazine archives. I don't think this is current.

Not really, I think hybrid CDs are handily winning that battle.

Edit: But even if DVD-Audios are a failed product, isn't just just a question of format? If they've got 5.1 mixes of these albums ready for DVD-A, would it really be that diffcult to put them on hybrid CDs instead?

amalgamated into Dual Discs now...Hasnt anyone noticed that no one is seemingly bought into the idea of Dual Discs as the floundering recording industry had predicted?

I do believe Neil (Nomod) talked to Ken Calliat not long ago and he told him that the Tusk DVD Audio had been shelved for the time being.

Thanks for the info, Sharon. It sounds like that's it for those DVD-Audios. I'm guessing the DVD-Audio format is dead. It looks like the only one I'll ever have is the Rumours DVD-Audio, which is terrific. I just listened to that one a few days ago.

This article is old. The documentary they reference already aired, on VH1 and not PBS. The re-releases were released over a year and a half ago.

I never even bought the DVD-A of Rumours because I had no intention of buying a proper DVD-A player with the correct setup, so I figured why bother when they're remastering Rumours anyway for stereo.

Any technology that requires fans to purchase not just the music (which is viable) but the hardware in order to play the music, is probably going to get winnowed out. Ken was so excited about it at the time, too ....

little late jumping on this thread, but my membership just got accepted after a few months of waiting.

The great thing about DVD-A discs is you have audio and video(or pictures) available while listening to the music. Also the discs have many different layers or mixes you can choose from. These discs are playable on any DVD video player...home or car. You don't need to buy a new DVD player to play them. The difference of sound is remarkable.

I doesn't seem this format is dead, the units are being factory installed in higher end automobiles in 2006.
