Which, if Annie isn't incorrect, makes Stevie a triple rehab veteran. How awesome is that? She's like, right up there with Elizabeth Taylor, Liza, Keith Richards, etc. Does quitting Atkins count as another rehab ?

No.

Epic woman, epic life, epic addictions. You can't be epic without drugs, debauchery, and beauty. For the process of becoming epic, the life needs amazing highs and bloated lows.
aaaahhhh. I know you're over her, but I love the woman.

It seems strange that no one in the band has ever said anything about going to rehab in the '70s. Mick didn't even mention it in his book, and he blabbed about everything (even told us he's circumcised)!

Bloated lows ? You have had a way with a phrase lately that just tickles me.

I know you love her, Homegirl.

I said it was awesome, didn't I ?

Yes. yes you did.

I think the word "bloated" makes things funny. Never knew that before.

I am short on bloated lows. I want to be epic. Many amazing highs. Some even coke induced. Gotta work on the bloated lows.

Well, also I think your life can be epic if you are in such good shape that you look fabulous all the time.
I, myself, am in the process of shedding my bloated low. Now for something spectacular....

I think I can swing that. I am thinking a debauched pool party. Hunky guys, hot chicks. A few of my crazy bisexual friends. 80's mix cd's. Outrageous tropical decorations. Patron, Cristal, and the one raging wacko friend I know who can still get top grade coke. Okay, I have the template for the 40th birthday party in July.

I have dropped a little bloated low before. Lose yours, and spend the summer here. We'll put it all back on, lose it with a fad diet, and be fabulous again next summer. I can feel it...we are epics in the making.

This sounds ideal!
What I wouldn't give for an invitation. Please just don't charge me $350.

I think Leibowitz got her wires crossed. Maybe she's thinking of the band she photographed the night BEFORE she shot Fleetwood.

Why would all five trot off to a treatment facility together?? or even at the same time? That's ridiculous. It's possible, I guess, that they hired Rehab-on-Wheels to come by the recording studio, but the idea that they all left the grounds together to go get help is daft.

And if they *did*, apparently the treatment failed. Does anyone think this was a clean band as the 1977 tour started?

I found that film really useless. On the same theme, with less stars but a slightly more intelligent plot, IMO, there 's a better movie, Whit Stillman's The Last days of disco.

I agree it sounds nonsense, probably she just believed something an overzealous press agent told her.

This is what she said in September 2004:

"I have a feeling the band had all gone through rehab or something," says Leibovitz, "and I brought out huge amounts of drugs, thinking that's what they wanted. They were not so happy about it, but everyone consumed everything, so we were all out to lunch. I brought the mattress and sheets."

She had a feeling, she didn't know for sure.

I will try to rent that & thanks for the recommendation! But for 54, didn't you find the whole thing this weird, compelling portrayal of duality: active vs. passive, clean vs. impure, urban vs. suburban, etc., with confused symbols, confused signs, confused characters? Think of the scene at the height of the artificial frenzy inside the club when the batty old cokehead snorts her blow & then died of cardiac arrest: I found it fascinating how the perspective got all screwy in a matter of minutes. It reminded me of the assassination in Nathaniel West's "Day of the Locust" (which it slightly resembled), & the batty old bird went from being a didactic symbol to being a lifeless person & back to being a symbol all within the space of about a 2-minute scene. It was weird & amazing! Plus, another thing I loved was that the rhythms established by the characters'/actors' speech were so evocative of the rhythms of American speech on the West Coast (even though the story takes place on the East Coast). Sitting there listening to the whole thing unroll was, for me, like walking around at the mall in my hometown of Arcadia in 1978 listening to the populace talk. It was extremely realistic, superlifelike.

But now I want to see this other movie you mentioned. I love movies that take place in that era, like Spike Lee's "Summer of Sam" (which I didn't think was totally great) & Irvin Kershner's "Eyes of Laura Mars" (which I *did* think was totally great).
