My only thought is that something like this shouldn't have been entertained if there wasn't a big part of the money upfront.

Me too. But, though I was not privy to anything other than the public onformation, Brian is a pretty well organized guy - at least as I know him. So, I cannot imagine he would go off half cocked or raising expectations for no good reason.

Based on all of Brian's comments about the lack of reservations and the existence of "controversy," plus his response to the NicksFix announcement that, well, this is what happens when news of a private event becomes public, the combination of factors that led to this thing being "cancelled" seems fairly obvious to me. I'm not asserting that I know exactly what happened, but I think it's safe to say that at the very least things got a little out of control and didn't play out the way Brian had planned. And I'm not faulting him for that; no matter how well-organized a person he is, something like this is a massive undertaking, and in trying to plan this kind of event, there's always going to be problems that come up where afterwards to say to yourself, "Well, ****, don't know why I didn't see that one coming."

Anyway, controversy and such aside, if you're planning an event that involves booking big-name talent, you don't announce the event until negotiations are done and you've got that contract signed. You just don't. That's Rule #1, always. I can't give Brian the benefit of the doubt on that one.

I have to agree with this. this is basically what I was trying to say earlier.

I concur, and would like to add that this is a HUGE reason why this thing couldn't have ever gotten off the ground. And for him to blame this on anything other than his own misdirection is ridiculous. The fans didn't do anything wrong, he obviously didn't know what he was doing. This was a huge undertaking, but he chose to do it, it was self-elected, noone put a gun to his head. So since this was his baby, he's responsible for the collapse of it if he didn't take the necessary precautions that are crucial to pull something like this off. To blame everyone but himself is poor form. It's not the fans fault that this didn't happen. The responsibility ultimately lies with the Wizard, even if factors occured beyond his control that made it impossible for this to ever happen, he's still the one who set this thing up so he's the one who has to answer to everyone . He made a mistake, he tried to be the big man, but it's not like this won't be forgotten or at least forgiven. I don't think he should be roasted, but I do think some healthy criticism is definitely in order, he can't get away from that nor should he. It'll blow over and he'll get over it. Let's just hope he learned something from this.

However, because of the amount of negative public reaction that has permeated throughout the community and the fact that not enough reservations have been booked in a sufficient amount of time to monetarily secure this event, we have no choice but to cancel.
Is this person trying to insinuate that the FANS are to blame for the cancellation of an event that looked suspicious from the start due to 1.) a lack of official endorsement and 2.) lack of logistical detail? What a crock. Such bad business, such bad goodwill.

Some fans also seem to be pointing the finger at other fans for not making this happen

How would he have gotten the money together in order to secure the contract without talking about it to the fans? If someone were to try and do this, would he/she have to have the money on their own, secure the artist, and THEN get money from participants? I think I just answered my own question b writing it out like that.

I feel sorry for anyone who got their hopes up, but the whole thing seemed shaky to me, so I'm glad I wasn't one of them.

And that really sucks. Nobody knows what other fan's life situations are & they have no right to judge them for not wanting to be a part of this, or not being ABLE to be a part of this. To assume that your fellow fans are able to come up with $350 up front & have total trust in something that's not confirmed is asking a lot. To assume that your fellow fans are willing to take this chance just because it's Stevie is asking a lot. Nobody should feel guilty about this at all. It's too bad it won't happen, but oh well.

I will say I thought it was odd that the post seemed to berate people who contacted Nicksfix or Stevie's management. Why wouldn't they? Why shouldn't they?

Intentions were good on this event, I'm sure. It appears that the organizer wanted to get the money from fans before the contract was official, so that there was money to provide upfront - which in turn - would allow for the artist to commit. Unfortunately, telling people BEFORE you get a contract signed just to get the money first is not the way to go.

If there was a way the organizer initially raised the money from a sponsor/supporter (impossible, I know), so that the funds are available to book the talent and have that commitment, then the organizer can send out an announcement, post an amount, and then pay back the person/organization with the money collected. This way, fans will be paying for a sealed deal and can plan for a great night with the artist. The organizer can then pay back the supporter.

I'm so sorry this happened. It would have been fun for all involved.

What a shame this isn't going to happen -- everyone likes a good Stevie bash -- with Stevie or not.

I'm sure intentions were nothing but noble and it's a risky thing to try and do this -- fair play to Brian and the gang.
But the fact remains it's a difficult thing to get right.

Fair play to them and hopefully there are no hard feelings.

Yup. The only way would have been to put up, say 50 grand on his own(or whatever the required deposit is), and act as producer of the event. Then essentially you take on the responsibility of paying the full fee of the artist regardless of how many tickets you sell. I thought about doing that when considering taking the project on months ago. When I realized there wasn't a fraction of the support needed to buy all the tickets, I bagged the idea. In order to get that many people to buy in it would have to have been a public event. And that would have defeated the purpose of the whole thing. I wasn't willing to take it in the shorts to produce an event with that kind of risk. The numbers don't come close to penciling out.

They should just settle for an impersonator or a tranny. It's so much cheaper & then you can control the set list!

You have an excellent point. It would be quite entertaining to have something like a NOTS 4 phases of Stevie party. Young, crazy, skinny Stevie, wacked out RAL Stevie, Klonopin Stevie, and current Stevie complete with frankenboks. 5 songs each, no song repeats. If the NOTS I went to is any indication, there is the distinct possibility this event would be more entertaining than the concert The Wizard was hoping for. And cheaper too.
