Anyone else think Love Is should have been a duet? Stevie and Bono?

I've often wondered that same thing myself. I don't think it's Stevie because she's not that good althougth I wish it were. It would make the demo that much more great (as if it could get any better) to picture Stevie herself at the piano sitting there singing Love Is but I was told it wasn't her. On the album version Sarah Mclaughlin is playing the piano and doing back up vocals so it's possible it could also be her on the demo or maybe it's one of the session players.

Jayne: I know, isn't it simply fabulous? I cannot listen to the album version anymore either, it doesn't compare. It's my favorite Stevie ballod next to BATB.

I STILL cannot believe you left out "I miss you!"
But..Love Is Demo was BEAUTIFUL!!! Much better..MUCH BETTER! Wow...
I love when she sings "love is..what you believe it is" So true!
This song really reminds me of Beautiful Child- The construction of it!
beautiful & haunting too!

Yeah, very possible it's Sarah. Don't have the CD in front of me, but that demo was made around Street Angel, 94ish, when she and Stevie met. They did kind of a chummy interview for Interview in March '95, so that would be the right time frame for a collaboration. Maybe that's why she called Pierre Marchand and Sarah up later when it was actually time to record it.

Are you positive this demo was in 94ish? I didn't realize Love Is was written back then, I thought it was later, like 2000 specifically for TISL!!

Stevie has said it was the first song written for Trouble In Shangri-La!
Right after Tom Petty told her to go write her own songs. True.

Yes, Stevie said Love Is and TISL were the first songs written for the album, hence the '94-'96ish sounding demo.

Thank you so much. Now that is a beautiful song. WTH happened? That's some serious bad judgment putting the other version on.
Edit - It did need some lyrical editing though. There are a few clunky spots. But musically it is much more compelling.
