I admit sometimes technology is a bother...but without it none of us would have all the demos we have
Well....most of mine were still on cassette and cd, come on!! However, and this is just my humble opinion....I do think myspace is dangerous.....it has been in the news recently for a reason....also....I know people who have an account/page and say that people are creepy who send them messages...I know some people use it as it was intended; to find old friends, etc..etc...but, I agree with "Diamondsnake" in that it is soo lame and a waste of time for most kids. I am a teacher, and the smarter more advanced students are the ones who have the t-shirts that make fun of my space I am a child of the 70's and I agree with Stevie often about technology...I don't think it's necessarily a thing with HER generation ![]()

Yes, and the overwhelming majority of sexual abuse against children is committed in their own homes by a parent or relative. It's Internet predators that get the most media attention, though. Of course abuse & predation is tragic and should not happen under any circumstances! Not saying there's no danger, but that's true of anything online. Parents should talk to their kids and supervise net usage to some degree. And yes, if you're so absorbed that you conflate MySpace with real life, and sit at your computer all day, then that's kinda sad and you should probably find another hobby. Sadly there are a lot of people that fit the "MySpace stereotype" who do nothing but take pictures of themselves from a billion angles and fill their pages with giant blinking crap
. If it's not your bag, that's cool, but not everyone who uses it is a predator or social retard. Some find it a convenient way to discover independent music and keep up with people they don't necessarily see/talk to/e-mail with on a regular basis. Honestly, the technology and general idea behind it is not that different from this or any other message board... it just depends what you do with it. Just sayin'.(By the way, I'm not ragging on Stevie for disapproving. I agree that she has a point. In general I think people would do well to spend a little less time online and a little more time outside or doing other stuff. Myself included, sometimes! I just thought the statement "they are evil" was funny.)Last edited by EnchantedSLN; 04-24-2006 at 04:06 AM.. |

MySpace has also gotten alot of bad press lately my bet is that is where she picked up on the "stranger danger" at my space. I do have children a 16 girl and a 12 boy; in my house MySpace and chats like those found on yahoo ect are off limits (special interest one's like for my daughter who is way into current events/politics its alright on occasion) IM's are ok but I monitor that heavily.....SO I agree with Stevie here. I also wonder if that whole thing on the nicksfix saying she does not have a site isnt regarding some larger incident...didn't the stroke rumor start there?

I think MySpace is fun. That being said, I think it's creepy, too. If I were Stevie and saw people posing as me, and others believing it, I'd think it was pretty evil, too. I doubt she's talking about sexual predators, but I could be wrong.

I think Stevie has a problem with the kind of social interaction it can create as well, ie: you can talk to someone in America better than you can talk to your neighbour.
I am pretty sure that idea is consistent with something Stevie has said before about Jessica always being stuck in front of the computer, I just can't remember exactly where I read it though.

I have never participated on myspace, so I am clueless to what is going on over there, though I hear about it (Negatively of course) on TV on a near daily basis. I do know that all my online friends/enemies are over here on the Ledge, So why else would I need to head over to myspace? Hell, I am nearly frikkin' 36 years old...I dont relate well to the younger crowd online whatsoever.

I'm not surprised Stevie has heard about myspace. It's been posted on her "official" website that she does not have a myspace. I'm sure she has been made aware of this, especially to make sure a comment about that is on her site.
A friend and I have laughed and called myspace evil, more as a joke. Mostly because their are a lot of perverts on there (men and women). It's so lame it's funny. But then the world is filled with pervs and other less than desirable losers, internet or not. |

Here's the thing with me. I dont think its evil, however there have been several incidents of students falsely starting sites in the names of their teachers accusing them of being anything from nazi's to child molesters. Very bad.

Some of my friends don't like or use the Internet, either. But they don't, out of ignorance of the whole scene, stand there & pronounce the entire culture depraved. Nicks has some sort of weird ax to grind with regard to the Net & its users, & I wish she'd work through it already & move on to another crusade.

Btw, I don't think a dig at MySpace is directly a dig to the entire internet. I share her opinions regarding the music business and the internet. If the internet screwed up one thing, it's that. |
