I used to have a tortoise. A Russian Land Tortoise to be exact. She was high maintenance - I had to prepare her a fresh salad of leafy greens, vegetables, and edible flowers, combined with calcium and vitamin supplements every day. And what did she do for me? Eat, ****, and sit there doing nothing. I might as well have gotten myself a pet rock.

I still haven't managed to get a good pic of my other firebelly, Esmerelda (Ernie is the one pictured). She's so cute. She is the fattest toad I've ever seen. She's like a brightly colored ping pong ball with legs. I had to go to Petco today to buy crickets and sat there staring at the toads for several minutes, seriously considering buying a second girlfriend for Ernie, but I bought two male bettas instead.

I had a friend who had a African Spurred Tortoise. What a clever one this one was. He loved to be stroked on his neck...and he come when you called him...took him awhile, but he got there! Some breeds are much better for the pet trade than others, especially if you get them as youngings! I don't mind there diet, since I eat glorious salads like they do...except without the freeze-dried flies and other weird tortoise food that I used to mix in their salads.

Actually, I wrote a post that included almost everyone's cuteness, but when I came back to see responses, it was gone. It was one of those posts where you take the time to quote everybody? Yeah. You're all cute. Apparently I forgot to hit the "submit reply" button.

Sorry Amber! You of all people know there is no such thing. Somehow I missed some of the pics on the first page, including Curtis' (another cutie!).

I do have one question, though. Why does it look like you're strangling your kitty in the last picture? Don't worry....I know you're not really...it just looks that way.

I was just petting him that way...kind of swoop my hand over both cheeks, end up on his neck... I had to use one hand for the cam. Stupid lap cat.
