I know how much you love this song, and I value your opinion...So there must be something that drives you to always comes to its' defense...
However, I must confess and share with you.... I have never heard this song, in any version
Plus from all I read-- the enite Street Angel albumm is not on of her finest moments in music history---.

So please . help me to understand-enlighten me-
Post it so I can hear it,or if that is not possible, explain to me why you love it so much-

OK, cutie pony boy-as Paula would say... I would love to hear your reactions on this song. I understand you love it but...why?
And oh yeah..the sexy bitch part..we all get that...that is why we keep coming back

Thanks for the explanation sweetheart,

OH MY GOD
i am clearly not curtis
but your post offends me
YOU HAVE NOT HEARD STREET ANGEL?
you must go to Stevie confessional RIGHT NOW

the whole friiggiiiin album rocks
yes i MAY be a LITTLE bit biased
but you want ROCK..........you get rock
you wanna be a bit depressed, you can be that too

I don't know why Curtis likes it
I personally like the album coz i can turn it up loud and rock to it.
Especially Love Is Like a River
And what's not to love about Blue Denim........Never to be, not you...not meeeeeeee

as for SA the song...well i like it coz it's very visual
and dark and angsty
and that's what i like
and because you can take it as a suicidal song
and it's depressing
but you can also take it as a song about loving someone so much that you know the only way to help them is to remove yourself from their life NOT necessarily by death
but the real reason i love this song is because i wanna be a street angel. i AM one Stevie wrote this song fer MEEEEEEE
i've had a lot of **** happen in my life. i'm perceived as the weird one amongst my friends which i don't mind and i'm happy to float around and do **** whenever I feel like it regardless of what people's opnions of me are.

Street Angels aren't like anyone you know...They do what they want & they go where they go

i like that nomad imagery.
and i love this song to death
even though it is not gramatically correct

Lightbulb Same idea... different people...

Oh my dear Street Angel-from Australia...

I know you are not Curtis...and I am sorry for the confusion,
I posted my question right after yours-
So I can see where I was misundrstood.

But Curtis LOVES STREET ANGEL too-
Hence, the brotherhood of the song I haven't heard---

Thanks for the explanation...but I need to hear the song and I am not going to buy the entire SA CD cuz all in all I heard it was not good
But thanks for the explanation of what it means to you and your input...
hugs,

The SA album is terrific -- my favorite of all her albums. Best collection of songs, & it also has a nice low-key quality to it. The title song is a plaintive cantabile, very pretty.

There's nothing wrong with that line grammatically.

While we're on the topic of SA, I don't think it's her best album (in fact it's probably my least favorite) but that being said it's still a great album by my standards and any true Stevie fan should own it.

StreetAngel86 - I love your description of the song Street Angel and why it means so much to you. That is my favorite song on the album and can relate to it for many of the reasons you stated. Thank you for being so articulate. It feels great when someone can relate to a song on a similarly deep level, especially when a lot of others don't appreciate it. I wish more people understood the song as you and I do. The sadness, imagery, haunting story, music, and vocals. It is one of her best IMO. I'm definitely a Street Angel!

Wow David, I'm shocked that you think SA is her best album . I really value your opinion and since that's not the most popular one I'm fascinated. You really think the writing, songs, and vocals are Stevie at her best or is it just the collection of songs overall you like?

I remember buying SA and OSOTM on the same day. I had never read any reviews or heard anything negative when I opened it and put it on to play. I never once thought it was SO dreadful and horrible. I actually liked all the songs and loved most of them. Had I never heard so much talk about it being a critical flop, etc. I would never have imagined it was any less than any other solo album. It's got hits and misses, but it is, to me, a great album that I cherish.

I remember when it first came out- I was so excited- then so disappointed.

and that's ok. different strokes for different folks. I was more disappointed, initially, with SYW. It took me a good 2 weeks to get into that album. SA is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, I don't think.

But, I really don't care what anyone else thinks. I like it and that's all that matters.

I guess just the collection of songs overall, & the relatively straightforward arrangements. I think the writing is as good as on the bulk of her other solo albums. The vocals? Eh. .. okay, better than on Other Side Of Mirror because the willful disavowal of vibrato isn't as present on Street Angel, which leads to a head-coldy tonelessness on Mirror & Timespace tours.

Really, the vocals I dig the most are on her '83 & '85 solo albums, where she was able to hit tone far more frequently than in later years, yet nevertheless added rocky, snotty textures & timbre via intensified vibrato & arpeggiated pyrotechnics.

SA has never gotten a chance. All we ever hear is how terrible it is. So of course we've got preconcieved notions about it. We're going into it thinking, okay, how bad is this going to be?
But it's really not. There are some awesome songs on there. Some up up songs, and crazy fun lyrics. That's her thing. She gives us these amazing images. There's a few not so hot tracks too. But...all of her albums have at least one miss.
I was an avid SA hater until I actually got the album. And even then, it was ike torture for me when my friend made me listen to it. But the damn thing is catchy. Love is Like a River? Listen to the Rain? How can you not like these at least a little?
Anyway, it's possible to fall in love with this album. Give it a chance. Go in completely neutral. You will be surpised how enjoyable it will be.

I really had to force myself to listen to SYW- but once I did I completely fell in love with it (except for poor Silver Girl). When SA came out, I had no pre conceived notions, because obviously--it had just come out! (I was only 26 years old- SOB!) But for some reason, I just could never get into it. I don't *hate* it, I've just never loved it. But as you say Jason, it doesn't matter what other people think. I adore RAL and many don't.

It sounds whiny. The lyrics don't bug me as much as the melody. I don't even like the way Stevie sounds when she's singing it. The song itself just bores me to tears.

Your posts bore me to tears, so I guess everyone is even.
