So anyhoo, Here I sat 24 hours ago thinking I was going into work at 3:30 for a review and a nice raise. I get there, and the manager calls me into the back room and was like "before we start this I have to ask you a question. Did you eat one of the hot dog's off the grill when you threw them away last night. I was like "Sure I did. I was throwing them away anyway." Not exactly one of my better moves to say that. SHe proceeds to say "well, then I have to fire you." I was like HUH?!?!?!? What are you talking about? She said "I was watching the video tape and I saw you doing this." I wanted to give you a chance to answer. I wasnt going to lie. The thing that pisses me off is that I was very loyal to this place, even though it didnt pay a ton of money. They gave me a job when I needed it and I respect that. I used to take the old hot dogs home to the dog and feed them to him and this lady that works there and I would at the end of the night eat one or 2 as I threw them away. So something about this doesnt add up. Talk about a kick to this stomach. Here I've been working to build things up again after haveing ****ed up pretty bad over the last 7 months and now it's gone in a snap of a finger. I'm trying really hard not to get into that self pity mode. I was watching that Flight 93 movie last night and thinking to myself "That couldve been me." or I couldve been an Enron worker and lost my life savings. You wanna try to have that glass half full attitude, but man after going from a nice raise to fired it aint easy. Sorry to vent like this, but I need that support right now. Thank you.

David that sucks. Why do they fire people for eating hot dogs that are being thrown away anyway? Super weird. You're probably better off.

Hey David, I'm sorry to hear that. That was a crappy thing for them to do. I doubt it's really your fault. They probably just don't want to give you a raise because it would cut into their profits. I'd file for unemployment. And look for something else in the meantime. Sometimes these things are meant to be.

And I look at it this way too. I've been very lucky in my life. Maybe I was due for a bad break.

I'm sorry, David. Yeah, file for unemployment quick.
I hope this turns out to be a blessing in disguise. The reason they fired you does sound like an excuse rather than the real reason. Although, when I was young and worked at fast food, you weren't allowed to eat the things that had to be thrown out either. So maybe that was the real reason. But if it was, they should have told you that in the rules when you started. Anyway, good luck.

David, I'm with the others. That's BS. As a matter of fact, knowing people that worked for fast food restaurants, at the end of the night all the leftover food was up for grabs. Smells fishy to me...whatever Nikki says, I second...

I'm so sorry, David. That is really crappy of them. I think that's a good idea to take it to the local news.
And I'm sure you'll find something better soon! ![]()

I am really sorry to hear this, David!
You know what though, no person should have to work for a food service establishment that monitors its employees on video. Video should be for the safety of employees, not for spying. File for unemployment, and look for a job where you will be respected.
