So it worked for me on more than one level . I love it when that happens.

Wouldn't you have to attend one of their meetings to comment on their content?

You think they've had "meetings," plural? I guess that's possible: maybe one to form the club and talk about how mad they were that Coulter was coming, and one more to nail down the details of their open mic night (who should book the space in the student union, who should bring the microphone) and hand out anti-Annie flyers for everyone to distribute around campus.

The link I posted to the UConn student newspaper has a few good blurbs describing their little love-in, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know how these events work. I think if you've been anywhere near an American university campus in the past four years, the typical nature of this group is pretty obvious. I could probably give you a surprisingly accurate report of what kinds of people went to their open mic night, what kinds of people spoke, and what they talked about.

No, as opposed to actively engaging in projects in the broader community and delivering their message to people who may not realize the extent to which hate speech, bigotry, etc. still exist, or what they can do to counteract those kinds of ideas.

Whose eyes are we opening?
No one's, as far as I know. This is just some silly Internet message board.

What are we doing about this problem that is the Students Against Hate by sitting here, commenting on how silly they are and feeling intellectually superior because we realise they're silly?
"Students Against Hate" isn't a problem, it's just a silly student group at a university. The only thing really to be done about it might be to get in contact with them and encourage them to do the types of things I suggested above if they really want to get their "message" out. If you want to look up the e-mail address of that kid mentioned in the article who's the president of the club, I'll send him a little note if you'd like.

I wonder if you understand this word "irony" that you like? Nevermind, just go to bed feeling good about yourself because you made a point, if indeed you did.
You're really big on this going-to-bed-feeling-good imagery. You're not having trouble sleeping, are you?
