i was looking on another message board the other day, and i came across this -

150 BEST SELLING ALBUMS OF THE YEAR

From November 1th 2002 to October 30th 2003.

84 Say You Will Fleetwood Mac 1,190,000

118 Best Of Fleetwood Mac 801,000

these are worldwide sales, so does this mean that SYW has pushed over a mill worldwide?? I don't know where this info is sourced from, but isnt platinum status only given to a cd if it goes platinum in a paticular country or region, not worldwide??

Every country has their own independent recording industry that recognizes gold and platinum status at different sales levels within that country. For instance in the US you need to sell 500k to receive gold and you need to ship (not necessarily sell) 1 million to receive platinum. In Canada 50,000 is gold and 100,000 is platinum. I think its either 100,000 or 200,000 in the UK to be considered gold or platinum (one of the two) and in Australia it's a different number again. SYW has gone at least gold in the US, Canada, Australia and the UK (these are the few I know of).

At last count that I've heard, SYW was around 850,000 in the US alone, that was at the end of last year, I'm sure it's abit higher now. At the time the 1.190 million was brought up, that's only for 6 months worth of sales world wide.
