Hooray for them for counting the Bob Welch years.

Quite a few folks I've talked to have said that Fleetwood Mac ended when Peter Green quit, and that they've been a sham ever since. Just because the Rumours crew is my least favorite incarnation, somehow, quite a few folks around here have lumped me in with that latter segment, which couldn't be further from how I feel.
I never have. You as far as I'm concerned, you're one of the best fans here.

Oh, come on. "Better Than You" and "Whiskey in the Jar" definitely deserved a Grammy.

yes, the grammys are ridiculous. Its purely a popularity contest. You either have to sell a huge amount (even though your album could be appauling - "The Emancipation of Mimi" comes to mind), or you ahve to have something tragic happen to you, like Foxy Brown is nominated for "Come Fly With Me" for best rap female, which doesn't even have a video or an album, purely because shes making headlines because she has gone deaf!

Losers don't usually become one of the best selling female artists of all time!

lol, i cant believe people are sticking up for her, doesn't anybody think she is such a retard?

I like her music though - her newest album is alot better than charmbracelet, but she has gone too hip hop for my liking, her older stuff is lightyears ahead of anything she has done recentley

I'm more than willing to admit that I love Mariah Carey, and I even liked both "We Belong Together" and "Shake It Off"... but I still thought that Emancipation was a bit overrated.

Are you serious? It's up for Album of the Year? Well, that's sad commentary on the music produced in 2005. Yikes.

(Or, I guess, just a sad commentary on the farce that is the voting for these awards)

You got it right on the second count. There was tons of wonderful music released in 2005 (or rather, October 2004 through September 2005), but very little of it was nominated for any Grammys, at least in the major categories.

There are a few interesting/non-laughable races:

Best Rap Album features Common, Missy Elliott, Eminem, 50 Cent and Kanye West. Kanye will probably walk away with that one.

Best Alternative Music Album features Arcade Fire, Beck, Death Cab For Cutie, Franz Ferdinand and the White Stripes. I'm guessing Death Cab will take home that one (not sure why Arcade Fire are even in there, since Funeral was released in September 2004; and where the hell is Sufjan Stevens?).

By and large, no. Unless you're a prestige/pity choice.

Phew, that's a relief, thanks for letting us know. For a second there, I thought Cat was citing a scientific article and I was very confused.

Now that comment wasn't even necessary.

being in the legal field, I'm well aware of citations. I was pointing out that there are others who don't feel that way.
