She had teleprompters at all her SYW shows and solo shows. I thought that was sort of a widely known fact. They are word for word - I mean every single ahhhhh, and ohhhhh, is on it. (I've been off to the side of her at the stage and been able to see it during the show). During Tusk at one of the SYW shows, I saw it... and even all the TUSKS! are on it (like, duh, who's going to forget to yell Tusk?) It even says "Welcome _____ (insert city name here)" depending where they are. I think it's a nerves thing, too. She hardly looks at it. I think she's nervous because she did forget so many words back in her hazy, druggy days. I think it's a security thing more than anything.

I think it's actually pretty standard these days - they ALL have them. But I'm suddenly having visions of Stevie back in 1981 or so, if they had used the monitors back then: "WEL-come! In-sert . . . city name . . . . HERE! " ![]() Seriously, though, I think there may be a more practical, reasonable purpose for them - suppose Stevie got distracted by something? (for example, a drunk nutbar running up on stage, a loud noise, Lindsey getting uppity, or the be-all-end-all of Stevie Nicks distractions - CUTE PUPPIES!!!) She'd want to have a way to quickly figure out where she is and what to sing next. Obviously she could do that from listening to the other musicians but if she's upset, nervous, distracted, etc., a quick glance at the monitor might be much more helpful. Amen. And I thought it was interesting that she sang Gold Dust Woman for uhhmmm how do I phrase this without being politically incorrect? Ah, screw it - for That Crowd. Suppose there's even a SLIGHT chance she saved some rich kid's life by doing that? More power and money to 'er, as far as I'm concerned. She prob'ly just blew off her bills and sent it to Katrina relief ANY-way! (or maybe she just selfishly spent it on herself - again, more power to 'er) ( psssst . . . It's called "generational wealth." Think "Carnegie Foundation" - and all the good that flows from it. ) Last edited by Ghost_Tracker; 12-05-2005 at 12:14 AM.. |

I agree Cat, she has used telepromotors at every gig I have attended since 1996..in the park in Boston. All SYW shows, all solo shows. I only saw her glance at it once or twice, only to see the city name or something. She always uses them so this is nothing shocking or something. Security blanket, just like the ribbons, black dress and Mr. B.

Jerry Berry Garcia was using them towards the end. If the Dead can get away with it, why not Stevie?

Not for nothing, but if she is using a teleprompter, then there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that she can't do new and different songs at her shows. I used to think she didn't do different songs because she was afraid of screwing up (like I remember her doing on the SA tour). No more! They rehearse for the tours, and she knows the propters are there! Give us something different!

I'm not offering advice, oh wise one. I was simply saying everything of late becomes a bitchfest and nitpicking everything from her makeup to her hair to her choice of songs to this to that and now it's over the freaking teleprompter. It's getting old. |
