Default O'Reilly Factor interviewing PROTECT executive Director Grier Weeks

I would never normally ask anyone to watch that loudmouth boor, but this is different: Tonight, the O'Reilly factor is interviewing Grier Weeks, the Executive Director of PROTECT, an agency I belong to whose mission is to protect children. This is a copy of the email I received:

Dear PROTECT member or friend:

PROTECT's executive director Grier Weeks will be interviewed tonight on
the O'Reilly Factor on the Fox News network. He will be discussing the New
York state incest loophole and PROTECT's Circle of Trust campaign.
Please check your local listings for airtime.

--THE STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS AT PROTECT

I hope people will tune in and get an idea of the good works this organization does. They were instrumental in getting Senator Battin's SB 33 passed, against all odds. (SB 33 penalizes family members who commit incest; previously family members would only have to go to therapy and the children were forced to be reunited with them) for further info, you can go to:

well......this is a bit embarrassing! I pooped out early and didnt even watch the show (I know, I know!) so I went to *gag* O'Reilly's website and tried to see if there was a transcript or something that I could at least post, and there wasnt anything there about Grier Weeks. I did see an interesting interview with Governor Pataki re: locking up violent sex criminals, and I also saw another "talking points" video follow up about Jessica's Law. I dont know what happened, possibly the email was sent out too early......

Anyway, apparently O'Reilly has a mini-theme going on here, he's bringing attention to the effort to crack down on child molesters. Cant complain about that eh?

By the way, there is a piece of Federal legislation brewing, that would protect children in ALL states, its called CARE ACT 2005

Check it out and if you like what you see, please ask your FEDERAL representative to sign on in support. Our children NEED this bill.

Nope, can't complain, although it is interesting that this follows all the progressive media's attention to his "novel" about underage crack "whores".

the jerkwad cant manufacture respectability, so he should hang up his spurs.
but I have to say, the more people that get the issue of child molestation out into the ether, the better. Even him. (that took a LOT of chutzpah to say. nuff said.)

Haha, it is hard to give him props isn't it? Every so often he has a lucid moment.

Not really. He likes to blame child sexual abuse on "the liberals" and the ACLU. It's really quite sad.

He's awful. I take back what I said. I haven't actually heard him speak on this issue ever. Once in a while Steph will play a comment of his that is unbiased and true. That is what I meant by "lucid". It is rare though, very rare.

Not really. I think he blames the lack of a stronger ability to prosecute them on those entities because they advocate stronger First, Fourth, Fifth Amendment rights than he would like seen applied to them. But, he does not actually blame the act of child abuse on them - at least to my knowledge and other than the perpetrator gets off on a techinicality and commits the crime again.

Im with you Diss...he LOVES blaming everything on Liberals and ACLU.

I will say that the ACLU surprised the HELL outa me when they came out in opposition to MY bill, the one that would have ensured supervised visitation if a person was convicted of child molestation (currently, if a molester can prove he's no longer a risk, the visits may be ordered unsupervised **it DOES happen, believe me, I know) anyway, the ACLU said that my requirement of mandated supervised visits treated molesters as a "separate class of people"

Imagine my surprise! and, no surprise here, the Judicial Council of California also came out against my bill, they objected to anything that interfered with their discretion.

Felafel Bill's standard line of attack is place blame on "the liberals" and organizations like the ACLU that he sees as enabling the abuse and allowing it to happen. It's quite absurd, but I expect nothing less from him. Not that he's anyone to talk since he wrote a book about drugs & minors being forced to partake in sexual acts. "Why don't you put down that pipe and get MINE up?"

Yeah, it sounds to me like the ACLU is taking things a bit too far with that bull****. I'm all about people having their rights, but children have a right not to be forced into the presence of a child molester and that right outweighs any right the diddler's might have.

Yeah. Isn't pedophilia incurable? How can a child molester "prove" he/she is no longer a risk. They are always a risk.

Children should have that right (bolded above), they have so very few rights in terms of the law though.

I don't believe pedophilia is something that can be cured. I think putting them in psychiatric institutions for life should be more important to our system than wasting time and money on busting people for pot and then forcing them to serve out mandatory minimum sentences. Things are so out of whack within our justice system that it boggles the mind.

This subject really gets me because I don't know how anyone could rule in favor of someone proven to be a child molester. The data, as far as I know, all shows that there isn't any rehabilitation program that works. These people shouldn't be allowed to be alone with any children any time. I'm one for understanding and compassion but the damage done by this abuse is so heinous that it trumps any "second chance".

I think O'Reilly is more talking about the procedural flaws that allow guilty people 's cases to be dismissed. For instance, in Miranda is not properly adhered to by the police and the perp's confession gets thrown out and with it goes the case, is that a bad thing? Similarly, if the police conducted an illegal search and the evidence obtained from that search is thrown out and with it goes the case, is that a bad thing? Most scholars say no it is not because the good established by making the police adhere to the Miranda warning and legal searches outweighs a few convictions being lost. If have to say they have a point. I will say though that the police should follow this person around and stop them from doing it again.

I want to weigh in here and say this is why SB 33's passage is so significant.
Im hoping PROTECT will also help me, but they are now moving on to NY's incest exception law (many states copied CA's incest exception, which is a shame, but hopefully many states will now also follow CA's lead and close that particular shameful loophole) for info on SB33, the "circle of trust" bill, go to
http://www.protect.org. look up "campaigns" and choose CA.

I think there is a groundswell of activity on this front now, people are starting to PAY ATTENTION to this Gawdawful topic.
