Try the creme brulee french toast. I highly recommend it.

I can't imagine what TJ's you went to. The first few times I went I had to try things out. It was a matter of finding the stuff I liked. They have killer cheap frozen entrees and excellent salads. I am also a big fan of their water and other fluids. The one by me has very reasonable fruit. I eat blueberries, grapes, strawberries and the like year round. When whole paycheck is charging 5 bucks for a tiny container of raspies or blueberries the same one is 2.29 at TJ's. Anyway....90% of my food comes from that place. And the vitamins are an amazing bargain too. To each their own, Frank.
Our whole foods isn't that expensive. Or I don't get expensive food there. Or I only get a little bit of expensive food. Or something.
I shop at Safeway, too.
If I had a car, I'd probably hit the other Joe's. It's in Berkeley/Oakland somewhere. Not by BART, though, obviously. I think that one has produce.

It's true, though, there are those occasional shocking times when suddenly whatever I got at Whole Foods, like 5 things, cost 70 dollars... That's mainly when I buy tea, and shampoo, and face stuff, and brie, and rosemary crackers (to go with the brie). Things like that.
I've never, ever, ever gotten bad produce from WF though. And it's about a four minute bike ride from my house...

hehehehe.."whole paycheck" hahahahaha.

It's not that bad.
But seriously, you must get a container of their two bite lemon poppyseed scones. They melt like buttah in your mouth. It's really weird. They seem solid, but when you bite them, the texture is like powdered sugar. They are seriously melty. You'll die.
So good, so addictive. $5.99 for a little tub. They also have cranberry orange ones, but I've never gotten those.

Oh, and just to say? Ezekial bread (sprouted grain) is only $2.50 at my whole foods.

Hmm, you should be able to find a better deal on Brie at TJ's. I don't know if I think it is cheap, but the kinds of things I buy there would be more expensive elsewhere. Organic milk, and yogurt is much cheaper there than either Safeway, or Whole paycheck. Good pasta from Italy, or organic vegetable stock, or organic jams, olive oil, vinegar, losts more things are less expensive then in most stores. Whole Paycheck could be cheap if you buy bulk things, or things on sale, and the same goes for the New Leaf near me, or the Berkeley Bowl.
When the TJs opened in SF, it was a lot cheaper than the other food stores, because there prices were the same in all of their stores throughout CA (I don't think this is true anymore) and at that time the food in SF was super expensive, whether from a corner market ($$gasp) or from Safeway.

I tried almond butter from Trader Joe's last month and it was one of the most heinous things I've ever tasted. I am so not a fan of almond butter. I buy tons of peanut butter from Trader Joe's, though.

The natural soda at Whole Foods is fecking ridiculous. They'd have to pry my wallet from cold dead hands before I pay their prices for natural soda. I'm actually not a soda fan, so I'm just saying.

You said "heinous" that is such a surfer word of my youth!
I bet you got unsalted almond butter-that would be yucky. I wouldn't expect almonds to take over the nutbutter market, peanuts are clearly the "best butter"; however to those who say "gech" to almond butter, I say "More for me!"

It amuses me that this thread titled " I think I just threw up" became a grocery store thread. hee.

Isn't it weird how almonds are soooooo good
(my grandma had an almond tree in her yard, aside from the smokehouse ones. B/C she lives in the farmish central valley of CA. - Stockton)

but almond butter sucks so significantly? And is so heinous?
Isn't that weird? I thought almond butter would be the best thing ever. But no.
Organic PB is awesome, though. At WF there's a peanut grinder so you can do it yourself...
I only buy PB about twice a year, though, b/c I will just eat pb n j's forever. All the time. If I have PB n J, that will be what I eat. All I eat. I will just eat PBJ's forever and ever. It's kinda gross.

See I feel that way about Cashew butter - blechh.
I think almond butter is a little bitter. I like bitter things.
In a possible food overshare (especially now that you have said you are repulsed by my almond butter snack) I tell you I like almond butter and orange marmalade together. Eat them up. Yum.

Cashew butter is also gross. Relatively gross, that is.

And, no, I still would eat the almond butter. And though "marmalade" was the bane of my growing up existence (my mom wouldn't buy sugary jelly or jam, if poss. - we had sooooo much marmalade. And don't even get me started on how much apple butter I ate. )

Like I said in some other thread - only things so far I won't eat are liver-and-onions, and corned-beef-and-cabbage.

So your butters and healthy jelly are safe here. I was a vegan before, I got way used to eating crap...
mmmmm, soy butter on toast...
