I've frequently heard the Mac's music described as "dinosaur rock". I was just searching for elusive details of Stevie's new Best Of disc, and found this:
http://www.cduniverse.com/productinf...cart=245147134 Sadly, I guess the description is true after all. The funny thing is, the covers look eerily similar, if you assume Mick to be the Purplesaurus...(And in case they fix the page, I've added a screenshot below.) That is crazy! They need to get that changed. You are right about Mick looking a little like a dinosaur, since he is so tall. Also, the dinosaurs have big, shining doe eyes like Stevie. ![]()

very funny.
I have to agree with the Dinosaur label - but it's not always a negative. I just came back from Coachella so I must admit, I'm a little revved up on new bands right now. The difference between FM and other "dinosaur" acts is that they reclaimed and maintained their credibility. I can't say the same for the Eagles. P.S. Wilco and Coldplay were really great on Saturday night |

At their best, Fleetwood Mac is really more closely associated with bands like the Talking Heads, the Police & Maddy Pryor/Steeleye Span than with the mainstream arena bands like the Eagles or the even worse AOR cock-rock groups like Styx & REO. And dare I say it? FM also have far more in common with the Fab Four than any of those dinorock bands could even dream of.

I think all you have to do is listen to SYW and relize that they are still a semi-edgy band today making great music. To me SYW has a very dark and edgy vibe to it. Very masculine, sort of dark pop. I don't know. I just don't see them as typical dinosaur rockers.

I think what would designate them as dinosaur rock, is that they are so clearly clinging to the past, milking a soon to be 29
yo album. If they'd play more new stuff, and dump the orchestra, I don't think the dinosaur moniker would be stalking them so...![]()
