Question Hit and run

I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice.

Earlier tonight my mother and I were in a parking lot, when some a-hole pulled out of a spot and slammed into the back of us. We weren't going fast at all; he simply didn't look where he was going. The back taillight and side is smashed. He actually drove off laughing before we could talk to him. Anyway, I got his license plate number and a complete description of the car. Is there anything we can do with that?

P.S. people in the city are rude bastards. The end.

I'm sorry, Kimberly. What an ass. I would call the police and give them the information and take it from there.

Call the police, Frank ! And take a picture of the damage. They might want you to forward that to them. Probably goes without saying to call your insurance company too. Did anyone else see this happen ?

Yes, I agree...call the police! Also, start keeping a neckbrace in your glove compartment. That way, if this happens again, you can slap it on, open up the door, and just roll out onto the street and writhe around. That'll scare the sh*t out of them!

I just think people should get what's coming to them. Is that so wrong?

A woman was parked right next to the guy that hit me. She definitely saw everything and asked if we were okay. I don't think that will be much help, though.

Thanks for the advice everybody.

*goes to buy a neckbrace for the glove compartment*

to the officials since in most states leaving a scene of an accident (Even a minor fender bender) is a felony and can result in this ass-trot having his license revoked.

Nice. I'm actually more pissed about him driving off than the damage to my car. Getting his license revoked would be brilliant.

Many thanks for the info, Brian.

Heh believe it or not I work for an insurance company and that's pretty much my job description

That witness just might be the key to make everything work out. Since your mom was in the car with you (and she is also family), she won't be considered a neutral party and any statement she makes will not be considered disinterested.
Only a neutral testimony will make the other guy's insurance company (if he has one) accept liability. Otherwise, if he denies causing the accident, it's just your word against his. So keep that woman's address/phone number and give it to your insurance company so that they can contact her.

Of course since I don't live in the US, things might be a bit different.

I work part-time at a Starbucks and this exact thing happened to someone I work with in our store parking lot last week. Unfortunately, it was an out-of-state (Ohio) tag so the cop claimed it was going to take much longer to track the vehicle down. I would suggest just definitely staying on the police and keep checking to see what they found out... and make sure to record who you talked to at the department, what day and what time you talked to them. Good luck.
