Default The Greatness of "Lizard People"

Who would have thought that one of the greatest Fleetwood Mac lyrics of all time would (or could) come from Mick Fleetwood?

"Lizard People"

(Pain, sore, aching feet
Pain, sore, aching feet)
Somewhere where dream meets reality
In the doldrums of your mind
We find a gray-green ambience
Lizard becomes man
And vice-versa
Very strange but strangely logical
The sheriff, the men with red necks
The posse, shotguns at the ready
Creep & stumble through the swamp's vegetation
Flashlights search the undergrowth
For signs of visitation
But lizard people have no need to fear
They are above, beyond & totally elsewhere
(We are the lizard people)
Caught in the fifth dimension
(No matter how long you suffer
Be it three months or 30 years
No matter what your problems are
Corns, calluses, pain in the balls of your feet
Burning hair endings
Painful ankles
Old injuries
Aching feet, pain, sore, aching feet, plane soar)
Somewhere where dreams meet reality
They are above, beyond & totally elsewhere
(Pain, sore, aching feet)
Lizard becomes man
And vice-versa
You may say, "Very strange."
But I say, "Strangely logical."
Without my neck
Without my head
Without my shotguns
They are above, beyond & totally elsewhere
Rumors, sightings, speculation
No reward
I search for signs of visitation
Not vegetation
(We are the lizard people)

I like it...it's quite good. But, then, I don't have the limitations of "what a Fleetwood Mac song has to sound like" that many people have.

I SEARCHED AND SEARCHED YEARS BACK TO FIND THIS RECORD, AND WHEN I GOT IT, AND PLAYED IT I WAS LIKE WHAT THE HECK? I LIKE IT NOW. AM USED TO IT, AND IT'S UNIQUE IMO. SOMETHING TO CATCH PRISONED LISTENERS IN THE CAR.

Not sure that I'd ever call it "one of the greatest Fleetwood Mac lyrics ever," but it's a rather charming, quirky song in the prog-rock vein. Something quite different for Fleetwood Mac, especially at that point in their career, and I always enjoy listening to it.

David, where'd you get the lyrics? Did you type them from memory or paste them from somewhere? I hear a few of the lines differently.
For example, where you have "pain, sore, aching feet," I hear, "plain, sore, aching feet."
I hear what you have as "burning hair endings," as "burning nerve endings," and after he says, "old injuries," I hear "headaches," and then, "or just plain, sore, aching feet, plain, sore, aching feet...."

I typed them up for amfm many years ago just by listening to it.

"plain sore aching feet"? What the hell does that mean? It means nothing. It's preposterous, it's ludicrous, it's utterly senseless. "Pain sore aching feet" is the only possibility.

Plain as a adjective works too. Sorry, Charlie.

I am plain sore. Yeah man, my feet...they are just plain sore, aching feet.

Can somebody upload this song. Believe it or not, it's probably the only song released under the Fleetwood Mac moniker that I've yet to hear.

I was thinking at first, "What the hell is a Jim Morrison topic doing in the Rumours forum?!" Then, I remember it's Lizard King, not "Lizard People."

I think I have this song on a Mick Fleetwood's the Zoo, 3 record set that I got for my birthday. Even though, I know it is a rare B-side/non-LP track; I think it is on there, because this set is some rare item. I don't have it in front of me right now, because I'm at work. I'll have to post more info on it later.

If somebody can upload it, that would be great! I'd love to hear it!
