Kotche v. Fleetwood

I was just listening to a Wilco bootleg and thought to myself that Glenn Kotche's drumming is often very similar to Mick's old style - lots of off-beats and great little fills but still a very powerful and pulsing backbone. Anyone else hear the similarity?

I really wish Mick would drum like that again...

Glenn's drumming is gorgeous -
and if you ever have a chance to see Wilco play live - you'll get that mouth-dropping awe-inspiring feeling that often happened when FM played in the late 70's. It's almost like he knows when not to play - it's all about the
spaces between -
and I think you can say the same about Mick's drumming.

Kicking Television - the new Wilco album comes out in a few weeks.

Yes, exactly! Wilco live is just an exhilirating experience, thanks in no small part to Glenn's drumming. Like Mick's, with all of those "spaces between" and surprising off-beats and fills, Glenn's drumming doesn't ground the songs the way some drummers do. Rather, it heightens the tension in the music and makes it seem as though any minute the whole endeavor might just come crashing off the stage in a heap. Though it never does. (I'm especially thinking of his thrashing about during "Via Chicago" here.) But you can feel the rest of the band kind of breathlessly keeping up.

Very very excited about this, although something about the tracklist or the running order leaves me just a little cold, though I'm not sure what exactly it is.

Oh man! The title of this thread suggests Mick was being sued. You did that on purpose.

I've always liked his drumming tho.

Yes I do believe Wilco is suing Fleetwood Mac for not taking the same artistic chances they did.

I love both drummers (and bands), but I don't really hear it. Glenn just goes off on so many different directions that Mick, even in his prime, would never dream of.

Now, am I the only guy who thinks Wilco could do a blistering cover of Badfinger's "No Matter What," especially live?

i can't tell you how refreshing it is to hear FM fans talking enthusiastically about Wilco - America's greatest band right now.

i was concerned when i read in another thread, references to Bon Jovi.

good taste isn't always a sure bet, even amongst FM fans...

anyone hear My Morning Jacket's fantastic new album?

At the risk of being told that this thread ought to be shuffled off to "Chit Chat"...

I don't know if Wilco is the greatest American band right now, but they're certainly up there, and they're one of my favorites. I'm very excited for a new album next year, and I hope they can get it out sooner rather than later.

I've listened to a little bit of My Morning Jacket's last album and just couldn't get into them. I've heard they're great in concert, though.
