What is it and why would you be deported? Now I'm intrigued!

It's Hitler's book and I *believe* our friend is in Germany at the moment. Or he's studying German, at least, as demonstrated by his reading Musarion.

Thank you. I was too busy over at the Dirty Sanchez thread to go and google it!

Bingo and bango.

Mein Kampf is Hitler's manifesto, written in 1924 when he was in jail for something or other. (It's just like Martin Luther King's book, only, you know, evil.) And as I think mentioned elsewhere in this thread, since the book is considered "Nazi propaganda" its sale is illegal in Germany. It's available only in specific annotated editions for academic use.

Although of course these days it's online all over the place in different forms, so that's becoming increasingly difficult to enforce.

Agreed. Love me some Joni though. I think Hejira was her last "great" album. Night Ride Home is her last really good album. She was at the pinnacle with Blue, For The Roses, and Court and Spark imo. I also love Ladies of the Canyon and have either of you heard that early song, "Tin Soldier?" I think that's early Joni at her best.

So is Travelogue a "jazzy" experimental reworking of her songs? I don't like that overly jazzy business .

Oh, I think Turbulent Indigo was greatness.

Travelogue is an orchestral reworking of her songs; I wouldn't call it jazz. And what's with nobody liking jazz on this board??? Geez.

And I haven't heard Tin Soldier. Unless you mean Tin Angel.

Sh*t, yes, Tin Angel, what the hell am I thinking?

Yeah, never been a big fan of white, hippy ladies doing jazz The way I see it, if it's gonna be jazz, then let it be REAL jazz..uh, oh, did I just enter a purist debate?

Uh, hell no. I just don't like jazz that sounds like Steely Dan . I DO like Ricki Lee Jones so there! And I also think John Zorn is a genius. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I don't like "jazz" packaged as a fusion of easy listening and watered down jazz. Maybe it's just her brand of "jazz" that I don't like. Yeah, that's it.

Boy, I hope not. I've always had a soft spot for Vince Guaraldi's Charlie Brown music...

Has anyone here ever heard Jane Monheit? Really wonderful young (white) jazz singer with a wonderful, soulful voice, which she has great control over. She goes for some really interesting and beautiful notes in her songs.

I enjoy Steely Dan's first album well enough (which is not really all that jazzy and has stuff like "Reelin' in the Years" on it), but I've never understood all of the critical praise they seem to get. Their music is just so... pussified, for lack of a better word. Aja bores me to tears.

I totally agree. I've NEVER understood the appeal of Steely Dan. They are like brussell sprouts to me; much like brussell sprouts are the one vegetable I cannot stomach, Steely Dan is one of the only big bands of the 70's that I truly cannot stand.

Madonna-Confessions On A Dancefloor. I can't say it's growing on me yet.

Wrong thread, but I agree. It hasn't exactly bowled me over yet.

EDIT: Okay, I'm really digging it now. I practically love every song but Future Lovers and I Love New York (oh, the horror of that one). The way that each track bleeds into the next is uber cool to me. Isaac has to be one of her greatest songs.
