I've always wanted to go to Australia... missed an opportunity to go with a school group a few years ago because I didn't have the money. Since then I have never really had an excuse to just pick up and go, either with friends or by myself. It's hard to just randomly plan that kind of thing, especially with other people. But if you do it in the context of some kind of event it gives you something to work around, y'know? Seeing Stevie perform in Australia would be the pretext, but it would be secondary to the actual trip if that makes sense. At least for me.

I think that's the big reason why so many people came from all over for the Dreams "tour." The shows were an excuse to go but in the end Vegas is such a tourist attraction and there's so much to do there that many people make regular trips there or would have liked to go at some point anyway, regardless of whether she was playing.

Oh, and I would only go if the orchestra is really going to be involved or if these shows are somehow different. Otherwise, even though the concert wouldn't be my main focus, I would just save my money and keep the trip on my "list of things to do someday that may or may not ever actually happen" for some other possible occasion when I could spend more time there.

Exactly! Couldn't have said it better myself. Australia, as well as many other cities and/or countries, has long been on my list of places to visit before I die. Like Rizzo said, "I wanna get my kicks while I'm still young enough to get 'em!"

Ha. Well, but you can work it! You know, I retract my statement about that shirt being the most heinous piece of tour merchandise ever, anyway. Let me see if I can find a picture of the RAL "thing" I saw recently on eBay that is 10x worse...

Ah ha. Wasn't asking because I doubted the info, just wanted to make sure I didn't miss some kind of important press release. Thank you, and thank you!

Hmm... now the question is, where in Australia is better, from a tourist's perspective? Sydney? Melbourne? Brisbane? Aussie Ledgies?

I don't think Stevie is performing with the orchestra because shouldn't they give the tour a different name and they don't have a lot of rehearsing time!

I've been there about 3 years ago. I like Melbourne more, but Sydney is more exciting. You cant go wrong in either city. P.S Bondi beach in Sydney is sooo lpaded with HOT men!!

Yeah, I dunno. Originally that seemed to be the whole purpose for her going down there, because she was invited to perform with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. She talked about re-arranging her songs specifically for that reason on the radio. Maybe that has changed. When she first mentioned it, I pictured something similar to the Vegas "Dreams" shows where she would set up camp and do a series of concerts at a single venue (wherever the home of the MSO was) rather than tour all of Australia. Now it sounds like the orchestra component is up in the air and it may just be an Australian leg of this summer's Gold Dust Tour. Or maybe it will be that plus just one special performance with the orchestra (I would venture a guess at Rod Laver Arena, since that is part of the park where they play.) Hopefully the news will keep coming.

Or maybe at the Sydney Operahouse?

Things to see in Sydney: Olympic Stadium, Sydney Tower, where they have like 3 different levels of dining about 90 stories above the ground. Also, the Blue Mountains about 100 miles west of Sydney are a must see. You can take a tour there or go by yourself.
Things to see in Melbourne. ABout an hour away is The Great Ocean Road, without question the most spectacular oceanside drive I've ever been on, including 101 in Cali. I spent 2 weeks there in 2001. Absolutely the best vacation I've ever been on.
