I just saw "Manderlay," Lars Von Trier's follow-up to "Dogville," and was deeply disturbed by it. I don't really know what to think about it right now. That man has balls of steel, that's for sure.

Rented Super Size Me and Swimming Pool a few nights ago. Very opposite movies. I liked them both.

Diss - Don't you ever see anything considered mainstream or commercial?

If so, do you ever like it?

And is that a blond Garafaolo in your avatar?

I love "Swimming Pool." It was like a Chabrol movie on acid. Charlotte Rampling gets better and better, imo, and that was one of her best performances.

I can't believe you actually saw "Dogville." Doesn't seem like the kind of movie you'd give the time of day to considering the politics of it. Might as well see a Michael Moore movie; they're tame in comparison.

Bryce Dallas Howard was fantastic in it, as was Danny Glover. Who knew that he still had it? Not me.

I'd never seen her before. I think I may watch it again tonight.

I am off to the pool. Wish me good Manatee karma.

If Nicole is in it...I'll watch it! She could have been in damn Gigli and I would have seen it!

And I did see centipede 9/11 or whatever it's called.

I can be versatile you know! Can you say the same? ;-)

Yes, she has improved. I'll never forget her in 'Orca The Killer Whale.' Snicker.

But the best thing about 'Swimming Pool' was Ludivine Sagnier.

Charlotte needs to trim that bush.

I highly doubt Nicole would attach herself to a project that would require her to spread her legs and say "It's turkey time. Gobble, gobble."

In any case, I recommend "Manderlay." The editing and staging is better than in "Dogville" because he seems to have gotten a better grip on what he's doing and what he wants. He was sort of flying by the seat of his pants in the other one. The message isn't as ambiguous as in "Dogville," either, but that's what makes it more shocking. It's makes for more seat squirming, which says a lot because "Dogville" wasn't exactly shy, and the last half hour was pretty darned ballsy. No American filmmaker would dare make such a movie.

Sometimes you really come off very snobby. American filmmakers do dare to make such movies. Instead of listing them...you should think about it.
