Two fondly remembered bands of the 80s went head to head but in the end it was the pop fun and video savy of Simon Le Bon and the boys that got your vote.
Round 23 sees three hugely successful chick singers who made their names in the 1990s go up against each other. Just who will you pick? The results so far... Round 1: Petty defeats Springsteen - 36 to 19 Round 2: Led Zeppelin defeat The Who - 22 to 19 Round 3: Madonna defeats Sheryl Crow/Kate Bush - 24 to 13/10 Round 4: The Beatles defeat Rolling Stones/U2 - 23 to 16/14 Round 5: Guns N Roses defeat Bon Jovi/Metallica - 17 to 13/12 Round 6: Heart defeat Blondie/The Pretenders - 23 to 16/6 Round 7: The Beach Boys defeat The Kinks/The Byrds - 24 to 10/10 Round 8: Johnny Cash defeats Elvis Presley/Roy Orbison - 20 to 19/7 Round 9: Abba defeats The Carpenters - 25 to 15 Round 10: Prince defeats Jimi Hendrix/Lenny Kravitz - 24 to 15/3 Round 11: No Doubt defeat Garbage/Hole - 27 to 11/9 Round 12: Bob Dylan defeats Neil Young - 26 to 25 Round 13: Dolly Parton defeats Emmylou Harris/Linda Ronstadt - 20 to 17/9 Round 14: Marvin Gaye defeats Aretha Franklin/Stevie Wonder/Diana Ross - 14 to 11/10/2 Round 15: David Bowie defeats Lou Reed/Iggy Pop - 35 to 5/2 Round 16: Talking Heads defeat The Clash - 20 to 19 Round 17: Billie Holiday defeats Ella Fitzgerald - 22 to 7 Round 18: The Eagles defeat Lynyrd Skynyrd - 26 to 16 Round 19: The Doors defeat Jefferson Airplane - 21 to 16 Round 20: Elvis Costello defeats Sting - 18 to 12 Round 21: Eurythmics defeat Depeche Mode/New Order - 20 to 7/6 Round 22: Duran Duran defeat Tears For Fears - 17 to 15

I'm sitting this one out. Chick music makes me ill. (shakes head as horrifying visions of the Lilith Fair flicker in her mind) Yuck.

Oooh, interesting. Jewel's out of the running immediately for me. As a one-trick pony, it wasn't a bad trick, it just wasn't that interesting.
So, Alanis vs. Tori? I have to say, I'm not a Tori fan by any means, but I do respect her. My first instinct is to go with Alanis because Jagged Little Pill is just so definitive. But she spent the following ten years releasing music that just got crappier and crappier until she had nothing left to do but... rerecord her hit album unplugged and sell it through Starbucks? Does she need to pay her bills that badly? Is that creatively bankrupt? Plus, Dogma was just a ****ty movie, and she certainly didn't help. Tori it is. |

Some of Alanis songs are ok but I'm not a big fan of a lot of this 'chick' music either. Tori Amos is on my list of artists I hate. Jewel too. Sorry.

What the????
uh...lets see...I've never like Alanis, I liked Tori okay for a second, I liked one Jewel song... this is pretty lame. Guess I'll pick Tori, she seems the most talented overall.

I'm with Amber on this one - not a fan of Jewel or Alanis and even though I'm not familiar with a ton of her music Tori is easily the most talented, so Tori for me.

Oh and saying that the only thing they have in common (other than being women) is that they are singer songwriters from the 90's doesn't make much sense. Since it is music that we're talking about, what other similarities or differences would even matter? |
