I finally got around to posting this on epinions.com earlier today. Epinions is a "pay-per-hit" website so I thought I'd be nice and post it here verbatim.
I also wanted to make sure I didn't make any horrible mistakes that need correcting (epinions lets the user update his/her reviews after they've been posted). A lot of it seems redundant, but I am writing for a general audience. Quote:

"FILLER"?!?!?
The album HAS no filler. (the only FMac album that doesn't!)

"Why" is, of course, the best thing Christine has ever done (and that intro is one of the best things Weston's ever done). And "Miles Away" does indeed kick ass. |

I think Mystery To Me is the best thing Fleetwood Mac ever did...there's no filler anywhere. But, I did enjoy reading the review, even if I didn't completely agree with everything. I do agree with the review of "Why"...best Christine McVie song AND best Fleetwood Mac song ever.

Yeah, um, y'all don't kill me but I completely agree with that assessment of "For Your Love." I consider it disposable filler. It's the only song on the album I feel that way about.

"Mystery to Me" has its strengths as well as its weaknesses. My favorite FM album with Welch is "Heroes," which is a sort of aural aposiopesis of mid-'70s hippie thoughts & style.

I recommend Longinus, "On the Sublime," as well as a little Harold Bloom ("A Map of Misreading") & Harry Levin ("Contexts of Criticism"). One day, Dave, you may be as great as I in terms of ability to recognize formalistic & thematic quality in works of art. :O ![]()
