I'm just not a fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd. I tend to think of them the same way I think of Ted Nugent. Ugh.

On a semi-unrelated note...when I was little, I used to mishear "Lynyrd Skynyrd" as "skinner dinner." I don't know why.

Well, here's the thing...I like the *sound* of it. It's the image I can't get past...all the rebel flag waving, "the South is gonna rise again" crap. Admittedly, not all southern rock bands are like that, but enough of them are that I'm (generally) turned off by the whole genre.

Aww...don't I feel special.

I wasn't posting for a while, b/c it seemed that I p*ssed some people off, so I was laying low for a bit.

You wouldn't be stereotyping would you

Here is some info. on that line you are refering to http://www.thrasherswheat.org/jammin/lynyrd.htm

Seriously, people are always quick to demonize the South, but racist a$$holes exist everywhere, not just here But, the rep sticks because the South fought to keep slavery. It did not matter that the North treated its blacks just as almost as horrendously as the ones enslaved in the South. It is just the South that gets the blame

That's the schtick that turns me off. All that rabble rousing, "Sweet Home Alabama" **** just nauseates me. Fech. Don't even get me started on "Freebird." Oyyyyyyyyy.

Vocal harmonies are nice, but they rank near the bottom on my list of musical priorities. As you suspected, lyrics rank #1. The lyrics of this song are pleasant, but not especially memorable. #2 as you might suspect, is guitar. I just listened to this song for the first time in ages, and I didn't even realize there was a guitar on it.

If a song has forgettable lyrics, it damn well better include a great guitar part.

If a song has great lyrics, then it is excusable to have forgettable instrumentation.

Also, I don't like acapella music. I realize this song technically isn't acapella, but it might as well be for all the effect that acoustic guitar has.

For the record, I don't hate all Eagles songs. I actually really like "Lying Eyes."

Well, you know what they say about stereotypes.

But, I've lived in the south all my life, so it's not like I don't have room to talk, you know?

Then you should be able to say first hand that it exists everywhere, at least that is my experience.
