I've always heard it a little differently.

"I read the name of it in a, in a, just a novel. I really liked it, thought 'that's a really beautiful name.' Sat down -- (makes pencil scratching sound) -- 'bout ten minutes later wrote 'Rhiannon.'
We think that she was in fact queen, and that her memory became the myth.
I definitely feel that there's a presence...."

And then the rest is obscured by the music. It sounds like "in this song."

OMG. This is completely an "I am so goddamned stoned on this killer Maui Wowie and I can't string together a complete sentence, and this amazing killler Peruvian Flake came in from this really creepy guy yesterday so I am also really wired and it is so AWESOME and I remember reading this book, and it was about a witch and there was this horse and a bunch of birds and OMIGOD it was just toooo much and, Chris pass me that pipe, and I remember thinking it was this really beautiful name and would sound fantastic over an A minor chord and..." moment.

She was totally, irredeemably, fantastically f*ucked up on really expensive 70's drugs, folks. That's ALL.

I never really understood the part about her memory becoming the myth....maybe I'm looking beyond it, somehow, but I don't get that

I think maybe she was saying that the people's "collective
memory" of the character grew over time into a bigger and bigger
myth. And to borrow from the bus driver character on "Simpsons,"
she felt that that was just AWESOME. She also felt at that moment,
I think, that those CLOUDS, are AWESOME. This CHAIR, is AWESOME!
This MICROPHONE, is AWESOME!

Really, though, I think mostly she was trying to start building her
"mythical, gypsy" image.

That would be great, Sharon. We U.S.ers have all these European interviews on tape, but we don't know the names of these shows or their interviewers. I remember one was called Rapido. Another one was French & had no show name. There were numerous clips from England. We need you Europeans to ID these.

The sheer...Candid Randomness is bizarre.
The lies/refabrications/evasions are bizarre, yet rich and varied. As are the revealed truths. And you never know which it is. I think they are impenatrably intertwined. It's a rich tapestry of lies and truths. Golden. Lovely.

The rote repititions are even bizarre.
"So, I went down to sly stones fabulous studio...it had a whole spiral staircase, and was just...it was really fabulous...." - - - "So then Prince came over and wrote the synth part, and I never saw him again!"

The thing is, I can totally imagine how that happens/happened. In the real way, nothing Stevie says is bizarre to me at all. Even when it's bad.

I can always see how, objectively, it would be bizarre. But to me it makes sense. Plus, I'm not looking for especially literal things in Stevie's songs.
I do look for the literal emotional meanings, and I believe that is always very, or at least fairly, easily discernable.
I enjoy the game, insofar as I play it, and just take everything I hear as a part of a rich tapestry, and then try to discern any meanings which may be repeating patterns. No big. A bunch I take with grains of salt, because I know how that is. I say all kinds of random things all the time. They could mean anything at any moment.

I just take Stevie the same way. No one could possibly think or feel the same things all the time. That's absurd! And predictable!

It just seems natural to me that sometimes Stevie would be totally brill, and sometimes she'd be TOOOOTALLY lame. It all works out.
Sooo...this convo is close to moot for me, though I love reading all the bizarre things Stevie has said. I love it like chips and salsa. Salsa Fresca, that is.

And you my dear, are a fabulous writer! If this is a mere hobby for you, you should consider making it more...
