Default Like or Dislike: Listen To The Rain

This tune rocks. The vocal is strong, the music is rockin', the lyrics are...well, they are not her best, but they have their moments.

The chorus is quite good (love "instant flash of light that shines.") And I can't help but sing along with "Hey, and that's good!" Yeah, it's a bit odd, but it's fun.

More good stuff:

My world will still revolve around you
(Listen to the rain)
Take time...to listen to the rain
(Listen to the rain)
Take time baby...to listen to the rain

(Well she didn't know better)
Well she didn't know then that the sound that she heard
(Well she didn't know)
Was the sound of her own door...closing

One of her more impassioned vocals on Street Angel, IMO. (Unlike boring "Maybe Unconditional Love Will Change Your Mind" {copyright Amber}) Yeah, maybe the Phantom of the Opera and B&TB is a bit much, but I this is one of my faves from the album.

I actually like this song. Her vocals are really good. Some of the lyrics do suck though.

I blasted this tune on the way to Target today. It's so rocking.

I love her vocals and delivery during this part:

Open up the window....
And listen to the rain
Take some time to smell the roses
And you can throw away the pain

I can relate to this song. To me, it's about loving someone who is always so intense and wanting to be perfect (Lindsey, persay) and Stevie is telling them to slow dow and enjoy life and love. That no matter what, she will always be there...telling him to enjoy the finer things in life.

I love it very much. My third favorite song on that album. And I only like three songs on it. I wish she'd perform it live.

Rock and Roll is usually pretty literal, and often poetic. I tend to listen to a lot of alternative artists and many are more about the imagery and the actual sounds of the words. Cocteau Twins lyrics used to be totally incomprehensible, and purposfully so because Elizabeth Frazer wanted the listener to take in the music and vocal as a whole rather than concentrate on any one thing. I see Listen To The Rain as a similar experience. I'm usually very intuned with what Stevie is saying in her songs and the meaning in the lyrics, but sometimes a song is just so incredible because of the way the words roll of the tongue. And yes, my absolute favorite part is "Hey, and that's good".

I do prefer the sound of a door closing, especially if it's the door to my room and that someone who shall remain nameless might leave me alone for the night.

It was a very difficult choice to make when I was deciding which line should be top choice. I feel your pain.

I liked the demo of this song SOOO much better.
Especially the lyric change:
"My world will still revolve without you..." I love that!

THE highlight of STREET ANGEL, in my opinion...great vocals...

3 Stars from me. I like it. I guess it's lodged itself somewhere in my brain because whenever it starts raining I think

"Open up the window....
And listen to the rain"

It's another of Stevie's fun songs. Call me silly but I love the lines

"There's no Beauty and the Beast here
No! No! No!
There's no Beauty and the Beast here"

Although written down it does look rather stupid. I guess its the way she sings it that I love.

No, that's not silly. It is a fun song!
It is cool when she says "no!no!no! there's no beauty and the beast heah!"

I'm glad you like it, but it's too bad you're not a Frontlinah. Cause this is a fun, kick arse little vocal!
