Face it, babe, our favorites will always lose.

Thank you trackaghost. I will vote for the other artists as well, even if it is a little late.

Yes, I think Neil is brilliant and would love him to win. Especially for my dad, but who knows? lol!

WildInTheWind · #19 10-02-2005, 05:41 PM

This is probably the hardest one of these for me yet! I went with Neil. I love them both, but I've seen both of them in concert several times. Bob Dylan wasn't so great. Neil Young with CSNY was freakin amazing. So there recent years was my deciding factor.

Zuh? Dylan is constantly going out of his way to reinvent himself and his music, year in and year out. How has become anything approaching a parody? A band like Fleetwood Mac is far closer to a parody of itself than Dylan will ever be.

My friend was saying to me the other day that Dylan now sounds like someone doing a bad impression of him, you know, very nasal and the voice going high at the end of every line. I listened to a recent recording and by god he was right! That said, Dylan will always be amazing to me.

Dylan has his on-nights and his off-nights these days - the off-nights usually being the ones where he resorts to the horrible up-singing at the end of every lyric - but find a recording of a better show or give him another shot next time he's in your area. If it's an on-night, it'll be one of the best concerts you've ever been to.

How to choose between Bob and Neil, though? I don't think I possibly could.

I haven't really like anything Dylan has done since the 70s. Although I know others disagree. I still think he often seems like a parody of himself IMO.

How do you mean this, though? There's a difference between simply not liking someone's stuff and thinking they've become a parody of themselves. What is it about Dylan today that you find parodic?

And just for the record I was talking about HIS SINGING, which is why I went on to comment about him singing live.

Uh, yeah. I got that, which is why I also went on to comment about him singing live.

Bob Dylan: his songwriting makes of him an enlighting society critic, even in his most obnoxious and greedy phases.

Neil Young. At least I can understand 90% of his lyrics.

I can't think of Neil Young without laughing anymore. Everytime I hear him mentioned, I think of the "sizzling" soundtrack he did for the movie "Dead Man." What godawful stuff that was! (Liked the movie, though.)

I only meant this all as a bit of fun really, I hate it when things turn nasty.

I'm not tired of them; they're fun. It gives us the opportunity to discuss other artists on a larger scale than just one or two fans gushing about certain artists in those silly "What are you listening to now" threads.

Keep them going! It's fun seeing who else shares your taste and those who have none

Seriously, I learn so much about other artists on this board and it has helped me expand my collection with some artists I may have never considered.

So silly that you post there about as often as anybody else does.

Anyway, I like the band face offs. Keep them coming.
