Oh dear god no.

I liked the live version she did with Petty at the Clinton thing.

I also liked the 89 or so version sans Robbie Neville.

ps-I was so glad when Faith No More (While opening for Robert Plant at the Muskogee Civic Center) spoofed the living hell out that Merle Haggard tune.
I take it you're not remotely familiar with a singler other Merle Haggard song, huh?

Well, yeah, because that song isn't infected by her gypsy mystic woman-child schtick. It's a straightforward little country rock ditty. I can't imagine Emmylou singing stuff like "So about the moon and her sisters, how dare he take them prisoner."

Their voices could work very well together.

There are others. I could see her doing The Highwayman, Beautiful Child (actually that would be fab!!) - Rose Garden, Sorcerer, Love is, Long Way to Go, and a few more. But, I think she would make them her own and there is little she could not sing well. Personally, I think her singing a toned down version of Planets and SOTM would be stellar - maybe guitar only.

Oh, the horror. I can definitely picture Beautiful Child, but that's it.

I just don't think those songs are her style. "Jupiter Rising" is as mystical as I think she's gonna get.

You really can't imagine Emmylou tackling "The Highwayman" or "Rose Garden"? Shoot, I'm surprised she hasn't recorded them already.

Don't get me wrong- she's the best. She could sing Yankee Doodle and I'd be mesmorized. But if she kinda re-invented herself, how should she do it?
I've heard several of the early "Coffee Plant" demo tapes with Stevie

and Lindsey and some of them were definitely country music, and some

I suppose you could call "folk" music.

They definitely were considering all their options.

So I think she definitely could do it! . . . .

Dixie Chicks, anyone?

Actually what I'd LOVE to see is a duet with Cindy Lauper omg. . . .

I mean, could Stevie somehow manage to figure out how

to harmonize for her?

And the WAR STORIES they could share omg

If people crave artists that continue to grow musically, listen to David Byrne, Emmylou Harris, Blondie, Elvis Costello, etc. As much as we might want her to, Stevie isn't going to. I've always thought that if Stevie ever wanted to branch off and record something truly different from everything she's done in the past, now is the perfect time to do. She's in the final stages of her career where she isn't a huge seller anymore, so that gives her a lot of leeway to try different things without worrying about alienating her audience. Her audience is her die-hard fans and a few casual fans who will pretty much buy whatever she puts out.
So..What's up with the Anderson Cooper OBSESSION???

Please not country! Oh boy did I hate that duet with Natalie Maines.

Country tinged is cool ala Thats Alright.

Is Illume really that off the wall for her? Its edgy, chant like, commanding, a declaration of sorts, all very Stevie-ish, in a way its similar the the original GDW dont you think?
Mick Fleetwood said "Illume"..was her new Gold Dust Woman!!!

Let's not forget John Shanks saved TISL.
No one including Sheryl Crow knew what to even do with the songs he produced to glorious results!!!

I think Stevie would be great doing a CD of old bluesy tunes (ala' At Last) BUT it's been done so many times recently (Cyndi Lauper, Rod Stewart, Joni Mitchell, I'm sure there are more...) that I wouldn't want her to just jump on a bandwagon, ya know?
