I think Fleetwood Mac's "Thunder Only Happens When It's Raining," the Grateful Dead's "I Will Get By" and John Lennon's "Well We All Shine On" are annoying, too.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

And a Who song by any other name still annoys the hell out me.

Heart Who!

WHO else??
LZ was an excellent band but I don't believe really comparable to the Who.
Apples and Oranges IMO

A truer test would be Stones/Who
It was the same time period and if you were alive and into music (Which I totally was...you either liked one or the other)

Nothing could compare to hearing "Baba O'Reilly" live and in person, with Keith Moon on drums...unless it was "Midnight Rambler" live and in person, with Mick on harmonica.
Sometimes....it's GREAT to be older

LZ came out later and I loved them too

but for this vote I will take Pete Townsend (such an incredible talent) and the WHO

Pretty easy. I grew up with the Who when I was 17-20. The band had four distinct personalities who all sounded like they were soloing all the time and yet it all came together in a magical way. Their catalogue has moments of utter chaos and power (classic endings to "My Generation", "Sparks"), vulnerability and beauty ("Tattoo", "Love Reign O'er Me", etc.) and just plain weird ("Cobwebs And Strange", "Boris The Spider"). Pete Townshend was one of the great showmen and songwriters of all the time. Oh, and I find a few of his solo albums (Rough Mix [with Ronnie Lane] Empty Glass, All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes) far more fascinating than any Zeppelin solo product.

Led Zeppelin were a great band too, but I've always preferred Daltrey to Plant as a singer anyway, I find some of Plant's vocalizing pretty annoying sometimes. Favourite Zeppelin song? "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You". And we all know Lux wants her "Tangerine".

Oh, and to the doubters of The 'Oo, watch The Kids Are Alright. That movie can even convert a stone.

I wasn't questioning your band selections if it sounded that way. I am enjoying this thread (I picked the loser last time)
I'm just thinking that Stones and Who belong together---
But hey, that's just me...
and I was trying to think who
I would compare LZ to...
Bad Co?, Van H?, Yes?, The Firm?, (sorry couln't resist)

So please, no offense intended...just me babbling
