Wait so if Bella Donna was released in 1981 than this is the first year she is eligible. If this is only the first year I'm sure she'll receive a nomination in the upcoming years. This was only her first shot.

And Brian: I could never believe that Lucinda Williams beat out Stevie for Planets with that particular song. A travesty I tell you! Was Stevie at the Grammy's that year? I don't remember seeing her but I wasn't a fanatic back then so maybe I missed it. That was the year Ms. Alicia Keys stold the show and won every award possible.

I remember watching that whole damn grammy show and not hearing anything about the award. Then hearing the next morning that she lost, i was so pissed.

Stevie was there... she was actually spoken to by some interviewer after she lost and said something to the effect of "it's an honor just to be nominated.. it means i can now continue writing and working.." or something like that

Def Leppard were excellent in concert this year as were Journey and I wish they were in the running for it. Who the bleep@#%* is voting anyway?!! They are really forgetting some great deserving bands....Heart, ELO, Van Halen....all the good stuff that brings me back in time. I bet Stevie will get in there some day but my man Lindsey who I think should be in, will probably never make it if whoever selects and votes has their way

Hey, don't be ripping on Lucinda. Have you even heard "Car Wheels On A Gravel Road?" That's one of the most amazing albums EVER! I'll agree that that she's not exactly rock, but she's not exactly country, either. She's one of those "alt-country" artists who walk the line (i.e. Johnny Cash, Wilco, Gram Parsons, etc). BTW, nice ethnic slur.

I think it's odd that guys like Gordon Lightfoot and The Guess Who haven't been nominated, yet. Of course, Traffic was only inducted a few years ago, and they most certainly deserved the nod in 1992.

I love Lucinda, she's one of the greatest. That Grammy was well-deserved, especially considering the vocal Stevie was nominated for wasn't all that good.

Blondie yes! But Pat Benatar? I mean come on. She had some good material in the 80s but has she influenced anyone?

Stevie has influenced many through her music and fashion, her career has spanned 4 decades and she is still able to tour the major venues and not the circuit routes(see pat benatar).

We will hear Landslide and possibly Dreams on the radio for a long time to come, not sure if the same can be said for Hit Me With Your Best Shot?

Cleveland, Ohio (AHN) – The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.

J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex, Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame, located in Cleveland.

Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.

Nominees are picked by a 70-member committee of rock 'n' roll historians, journalists and label execs, with ballots then mailed to an international voting body of 700 music industry types for the final decision. The five to seven nominees that receive the most votes will be inducted into the Rock Hall next year.

Great point. I can't even watch the damn bogus-assed Grammy's after stupid Jamiroqui beat FM in 1998. Where are they now, playing at Joe Blow's Tavern in East Jabipp? WTF, academy idiots? *sigh* I hate how they put Pop and Rock in the same catagory! Not even close. It's more of a popularity contest than it is about the quality of the music. Silver Springs was a million times better than whatever their song was.
