Never specify a preference! I went so far as to put a sign on the baby's bedroom door that said "Cynthia's Room" needless to to say his name is not Cynthia! LOL! A friend of mine who is 22 has 3 boys, she kept trying because she wanted a girl! And wants to try again! Another friend was dead set on a boy...you guessed it, 2 girls. Her husbands family was also dead set on a boy and bought the baby all boy stuff. The girl was a cross dresser for the first two years of her life, and they still buy her boy stuff! I could go on, but you get the picture, LOL!
Your sig is hilarious! The Tusk Factory! Now i can't get this image outta my mind.... Lindsey saying "everything is made of cocaine! Even the "grass" is made of cocaine! Everything here is snortable!.... Stevie screeching, " I want an Oompaloompa NOW!".... and Mick the "Oompaloompa" trying to look up her skirt!

I know i shouldn't care to much about if its a girl or boy.... i would just get disappointed i guess... i'l try to be more open minded. I don't want to wind up parading my son in dresses & hair ribbons !

People always think my youngest is a girl! Constantly little old ladies are saying "Oh look at her! She's a little Shirley temple!" LOL! I love his hair way too much to cut it though, plus he always plays with the curls and it's just adorable.

Yes, it is wonderful... until it wears off when you're 9cm dialated, and they won't reboost! I speak from experience... not fun at all. I would have killed for a c-section at that point, just for the drugs!

Sounds similar to my experience, although I didn't have toxemia. But I had excrutiating back labor almost from the beginning, and was in labor for about 35 hours. The epidural was wonderful while it lasted, but wore off right before I was ready to push! 3 hours for me as well, before they whipped out the forceps. Unlike you, though, I already had declared there would be no more children for me when I reached about hour 18 of back labor. And I've stuck to it!

But you are right, it is worth it! I couldn't imagine life without my little one... he's my pride & joy!

I've heard back labor is the worst My mom experienced that with my brother, she said it was the worst pain ever.
They had to use the forceps on me too with my first one. My second was like a trip to Disney Land though! I was really scared that the same thing was going to happen again, but I only had a few hours of hard labor and he was out with one push! Still I just look at him sometimes and say "Thankyou", LOL!

That does suck that they wouldn't reboost it. I had 30 hrs of labor w/ my daughter and and had the epidural only for the last 7 hrs. not fun. W/ my son, i asked for it right off the bat, but they put it in wrong at first and I had awful side effects-- pain, plus an intense itch that was all over my body. all while marty napped peacefully in the big ugly chair. lovely.

But I suppose the kids are worth it LOL. And when those epidurals are workin', baby, you can't beat 'em!!

wow i am lucky i guess, labor was like 10 hrs, i had an epidural for the 1st half, then the machine that pumps it into your back broke , so i had nothing for the rest of labor, i went from 6 to 10 cm, in 35 mins & they couldn't believe it when i had to push already~ i had to wait another 35 minutes for my dr to arrive, oh my goodness the pain during transition~ but my dr said if you want the pain to go away, we need to get the baby out...enuf said there, after 40 mins of pushing, dylan was born all 9lbs of him ~

Yes, it's horrible! Definitely the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life! It's like being hit repeatedly in the back with a brick! (Not that I've ever been hit with a brick... but you get the picture.) It's caused by the baby being face up instead of face down, and the head laying on your spine, pressing on nerves there.

Most people say the first one is the hardest. I know several women who had horrible first experiences, and the subsequent births were like a walk in the park in comparison. I'm still too scared to try again, though! (Not that that's the only reason I'll probably stop at one... but it does enter into the equation!)

My experience with my son could have turned out even worse, though. They weren't sure that he'd come out with forceps (he was coming out crooked), so they were preparing to do a c-section if that didn't work. If I'd had a c-section after all the hours of pain, as well as being pretty much torn to shreds down there... I might be in jail now for killing my doctor! Seriously, though, I could barely sit down for about 2 weeks after giving birth, I was so sore down there. If I'd had to deal with a c-section recovery afterwards as well, I would have been in serious trouble. And I'm about as big a wimp as there is when it comes to pain!

I know a couple women who had problems with the epidural not being inserted correctly, or coming disconnected. Not fun at all!

I was well into labor as well (about 24 hours, I believe) when they gave me the epidural, because I wasn't dilating. (I actually punched my husband in the stomach at about hour 23, because he told me I was going to have to wait awhile for the epidural! I know, I'm a horrible person!) But once they gave me that epidural.... I felt wonderful! I was feeling no pain at all, until it started wearing off. They ended up inducing because I wasn't dilating fast enough, and I still couldn't feel a thing, even with the contractions intensifying. When I felt it wearing off, I kept telling the doctors and nurses I needed a reboost. But by the time the anesthesiologist got to me, I was too far along, and they wouldn't reboost. By that time, I could feel everything in my back again. And they didn't realize my son was coming out crooked... when I was making little progress with pushing, the nurse told me I was "pushing ineffectively". She thought it was because I was still pretty numb in my stomach and couldn't feel the contractions there, so she took it upon herself to remove the epidural drip altogether. I freaked out so bad that the doctor ordered her to reconnect it! My poor husband thought I was going to hurt someone... starting with him!

But you're right... when the epidural is working, it's a beautiful thing! If we do decide to have another child, I think my husband will request a "portable" epidural so he can connect it to me as soon as the first contraction hits!

Yep... I had back labour with my first.... and somehow I managed to survive on gas and air. Foolish woman I was! To make matters worse she had he hand up by her face.... with each contraction she would come out so far and then go back in again. Had to be cut in the end

My second was definitely much easier. He was certainly in a hurry to come out. Even took the midwife by surprise. She actually told me to stop pushing... yeah right... at that point I HAD to push, if you know what I mean! LOL
