In England, you'll find many white women who are (and have been for a long time) soul singers. They're not following any kind of trend, they just love and appreciate soul and R&B like anyone else.

I loved this version/interpretation/arrangement?? of SDMH.....OK it doesn't quite have the same chemistry as Stevie and Tom but it was a great attempt to bring Stevie/Toms (Lets face who can fill Stevie platforms anyhow) music to a younger and different audience by two people who are currently en vogue on the music scene?

I know - but I think this chick is a poser in her antics. I just hate it when singers sing ten notes where one ought to be. Interestingly, that is why I mostly cannot stand Whitney Houston and that ilk - I mean all that hand raising witnessing and a ten minute of note belting to end a song - not for me and IMO an insult to most legit. singers. But - to each their own.

I just heard it. I thought she had a strong voice, but it sounded very weak. It sucked, really. It wasn't different, and it wasn't a good enough vocal to justify doing it the same. Overall, Barf.
God, Stevie's sooooo good.

I totally agree. Stone needs to tone it down coz she's annoying and a show-off. Melissa is definitely the superior singer and let's face it..Stevie is hard act to follow too and so is Tom Petty. Those were and are true rockers. The watered down new version is a wannabe but nice try. Speaking of Melissa Etheridge, has anybody heard her version of Refugee? KICKS ASS and sounds like it was written for her and her alone. Tom must be proud!

Ok just my 2 cents.... I think they did it justice but it was kind of bland to me. I don't like Rob Thomas but I think he did better than Joss. And lastly, I wish Joss would wear some friggin' shoes. Doesn't she know thats how people catch worms!

Ya ,now I know who Joss Stone is, She's cute, did ok on the song. Rob did a nice job on it too.now I have to find some time to watch the rest of the show on the tape.

I just listened to it and it was OK. Joss sounds like she can really sing but she annoys me with all of her oohs, ahhs, and yeahs. She does those extra vocals way to much. She did that last year with Melissa Ethridge too.

So what I gather from yours and another poster opinions is that you prefer covers that are clones of the original instead of being sung in the artist's own style. Rob Thomas basically imitated Tom Petty. Joss did her own thing. Kudos to her.

That's because Rob Thomas suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. He's the musical equivalent of a brown envelope; plain, boring, and not very tasty. Joss Stone put her own spin on it, but the young girl has no idea what pitch is and she sings everything as if they may be the very last notes she'll ever sing, so she drags everything out to the point where you're asleep halfway through any random song she's singing. All that squealing drives me batty.
