Oh, I want to know that one too - SN's comments in her songbook were very cryptic "had nothing to do with love" and all that - what the #### happened there? I know there was some gossip about him getting a package of drugs, and another saying she found out he was gay... the latter I'm not inclined to believe - the music industry is pretty small and she would have probably known his orientation if not before then during the time they worked together...

What do you mean her songbook and what was the "nothing to do with love" quote in reference to? I don't think I'm buying this rumour. Just because they worked very closely together and were shacked up in that castle in the Hollywood hills doesn't meant they were hitting it.

Sorry, I should have said liner notes:
"It always seemed to me that whenever Rupert walked into one of these old, dark castle rooms, that the rooms were on fire. There was a connection between us that everyone around us instantly picked up on, and everyone was very careful to respect our space...our TIMESPACE, so we all lived at the castle for about four-and-a-half months. I went home with him to England to mix the album at his studio...he left in December. I joined him there in London in January. We left immediately for his studio, Farmyard Studios, somewhere outside London. It was like being in a cottage in Wales, it was a little spooky...the atmosphere was like nothing I had ever experienced. Then something happened to him that simply made it impossible for us to ever be together again. I left him there...the rooms were still burning, but the fire had been stolen from us. It wasn't over love, in fact...it had nothing to do with love. It was just a bad situation. I came back to Los Angeles, a very changed woman. And now, long nets of white...cloud my memory...Now I remember the rooms, the music, and how truly magic the whole think was...
~Stevie Nicks, TimeSpace Liner notes 1992 "

There are lots of posts on that. Just do a quick search and I'm sure you'll be able to find the answers you're looking for.

Oh yes, I do remember reading that (and thanks for posting). To me it sounds like they had a very deep connection, but on a musical level. She specifically says it wasn't about love but who knows with Stevie. I wonder what happened to him that made it impossible to ever be together? Did he have a nervous breakdown or something? I guess we'll never know
.

I interpreted that as things were going swimmingly - deeply passionate - but when whatever happened happened, she got the hell outta there....intriguing!

I kind of read that as the breakup had nothing to do with their love... not that the relationship had nothing to do with love.

So your interpretation is that they were never in love?

Oh no, my interpretation was that they WERE in love... but then they had to break up ("the fire was stolen" from them) because of a "bad situation" that had nothing to do with their love. That's just the way I've always read that since Timespace came out.

(If indeed they did find out he had a child with another woman, and she had to leave so he could deal with that situation, it would make sense that she would say that other situation had nothing to do with love... like they had to break up over his obligation to the mother of his child rather than his being in love with this other woman... but I'm probably reading way too much into it.)

Rupert was probably someone Stevie loved, she says as much in the TS linear notes, but that was in the midst of klonopin ravaged Stevie. She never mentions the guy at all anymore. Rumour way back when was that Rupert had a wife, who got pregnant, while Rupert was supposedly "with" Stevie. So, she moved on. Thats the way I remember the Rupert relationship anyway.

Me, too. Exactly. And I agree with Sarafield, the relationship was definitely about love. The break-up was not. It wasn't that they fell out of love - they were forced apart by something else.

I wonder if Stevie experienced a little "deja-vu" in and around 1998.... Hmmm...
