Not only that, but I truly believe that if this had been a Northeastern big city instead of a rural country in MS and New Orleans and the surrpunding area - there would have been a quicker response. I mean FEMA had a plan in place for like 20+ years and it took this long from this administration to implement it after a gret start. I mean lots of aid and then NOTHING for four days. Something is rotten in Denmark.

With all due respect, there are lots of well off people there. They are just not showing them. They are filming primarily on on Canal St. which has two huge housing projects at the end of it. Also, not all of the black people are poor

But, I do think that the fact that NOLA in general is highly Democratic may play into this on some level. Yet, MS is a Bible thumping state that voted twice for W and he is cra**ing on then too.

As for the "generous people" comment, I think this disaster is very telling in terms of how savage our country is.
Although this is one big mess...There are have a lot of kind and selfless people during all of this! I mean GOD BLESS HOUSTON!

If this was The Hamptons or Kennebunkport there would be luxury cruise ships lined up to take in the 'refugees'I can't understand how anyone could be naive and myopic enough not to see that the response or lack thereof has been race and class motivated.I am ashamed and sorrowful to call myself an American in the wake of this. Most escpecially I thought I could not despise this miserable excuse for a president anymore than I already had ,but this slimy piece of offal has sunk to a new low.If there is an afterlife surely this pile of refuse known as George W. Bush will pay for his crimes against humanity.

Brandon... it is Brandon, right?... no one is blaming the current administration for where the hurricane struck, or that it struck. People are angry that we had opportunities... many opportunities... to put into effect emergency procedures and funding that would have better protected these people, and would have greatly reduced the number of people who were killed, not by the hurricane itself, but the ensuing flooding and levee breaks.

President Bush has continually cut funding that protects OUR country and its citizens, in order to fund a trumped-up war to protect his family's oil investments.

Wow! That was really uncalled for.

Come on people - why are you getting bent for stupid things like this? People are DYING!

People are homeless....

Lets use energy to focus on things other than who's complaining about what/capitalizing what geez.

Okay - anyway---

I'm finding this discussion fascinating -I've been thinking about the racial thing too - it's interesting to see the different way it's being articulated by various sources...

I understand about economics and race...TRUST me, more than you know...I just simply wanted to understand where you were coming from.
How is that snappy? I simply acknowledged that you do not understand the issues, acknowledged that I already explained where "I" was coming from, and that you did not understand it. Then I acknowledged that if you did not understand what I had said previously, that you would never understand it, no matter how many times I explained it.
I didn't use any curse words, or any emoticons.
Don't pretend that you didn't already have your mind made up, or that your mind was open to what I was saying. And in turn, don't call me snappy, and play the victim, because I called you on that.

no..does moderator come after my name? last time I checked..no..and there is NO way in hell I would want that "fun" job..haha I'm not trying to be ****ty or bitchy or anything else. I'm just saying that things are getting a little (a lot) heated and just like he said in a later post..it seemed (to me anyway) that he was really just trying to understand what was going on. Some people may not view things the exact same way every one else does. Because, to be honest...I never really thought about the fact that because this is a poverty stricken area, that is why help has taken longer. I am a very open minded person and after reading everyone's views, I can see this point. But it is not something that I had thought of before, so I can see where it would be a hard concept to grasp....
that's all I'm sayin' bout that....

What is up with you...How can you know anything about my mind or what it was made up too? Jesus Christ...

You ask some questions...and you get this crap!
