What purpose would it serve? Is he going to get his classy suits dirty or, heaven forbid, his hands dirty by helping out down there? I think not. It took him two days to even return from his ****ing vacation. The most I expect from him are some hollow words of support, a half-assed defense of his own actions (or lack of action, if you will), and some of his trademark Godspeak about his "visions," his "dreams," how he was spoken to from above, and all of it sprinkled with an admixture of his patently false, down-home cowboy "I-am-everyman" schtick. I'd prefer that he just sit on his luxuriously cushioned ass, like he always does, instead of diverting attention away from the plight of these poor people by posing for photo-ops that he'll no doubt parade about later on down the road in an effort to get those poll numbers a-'risin.

Heaven Help them:

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin issued "a desperate SOS" for the thousands of people stranded in an around the city's convention center with no food or water and fading hope.

CNN's Chris Lawrence described "many, many" bodies, inside and outside the facility on New Orleans' Riverwalk. (Watch report on the desperate conditions at the convention center -- 4:36 )

The alert comes as violence and lawlessness disrupted efforts to get help to people around the city.

Charity Hospital has halted patient evacuations because it has come under sniper fire, according to Dr. Tyler Curiel, who witnessed the incident.

"There are multiple people dying at the convention center," Lawrence said. "There was an old woman, dead in a wheelchair with a blanket draped over her, pushed up against a wall. Horrible, horrible conditions.

"We saw a man who went into a seizure, literally dying right in front of us."

In a statement Thursday, Nagin said that "currently the convention center is unsanitary and unsafe and we are running out of supplies for (15,000 to 20,000) people."

He said the city would allow people to march up the Crescent City Connection to the Westbank Expressway.

People were "being forced to live like animals," Lawrence said, surrounded by piles of trash and feces.

He said thousands of people were just laying in the ground outside the building -- many old, or sick, or caring for infants and small children.

Video from the scene showed a group chanting 'we want help, we want help,' as mothers tried to console their tired and hungry children.

More people were arriving at the center, walking south along Canal Street. The route north to the Superdome is blocked by chest-deep water.

The convention center was used as a secondary shelter when the Louisiana Superdome was overwhelmed.

As reports indicated a mounting death toll in New Orleans, U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu said that "we understand there are thousands of dead people" in Louisiana, according to media reports.

Evacuating to and over the bridge makes sense as long as there is food and water available on the Westbank, which I think is not flooded too badly. BTW - here is a map someone sent me of Metarie and Kenner, which from reports seems accurate.

He did know, of course, I cannot disagree. But, who do you think started mobilizing all these rescue efforts via national guard, military, etc. That all takes time. You can't possibly move them in prior to the disaster....that would be putting them at risk and would do no good. Naval ships and hospital ships were dispatched asap. What, in your opinion, which I do respect, should he specifically had done to make things happen faster, without endangering the lives of those trying to help?

So, you would not have attacked him if he had declined to go and would have told people they were wrong for doing so.

no spin zone dear

No, his inaction leading up to any vanity appearance at the site of this disaster would be enough for me attack.

Haha! Sounds like something you'd say about a kid with A.D.D. - not about the President of the United States!

to sever/block oil from reaching the U.S. and you will see something even more destructive than even another 911 could hope to accomplish...Full scale Civil War.

Sadly, Just saw on FNC Sheppard Smith talking as 2 bodies lay within view behind him on an elevated highway...At least someone had the decency to dress the victims in clothes and cover 'em under sheets.

Hate to use the following statement (Which appears courtesy of the movie "Full Metal Jacket") but "it's a big s**t sandwich and we will all have to take a bite".

Dissention.....respectfully you are talking about one person....he holds a position to delegate, to lead. Can you actually watch what is going on and think that he's not involved? Seriously? And he does get in there and get "dirty"....he always did here in Texas...and he still does. I know I can't possibly sway your opinion....all I ask is that you look at the whole picture.

Well, it does not take four days either. I mean NYC had help in an day Moreover, that it takes four days to get all the help there is insane by any definition. Mind you - I am the rationale one around here when it comes to stuff like this

He should have mobilized the Guardsmen on Monday and had them begin to congregate in Texas on the Louisiana border.

He should have ordered the food and water then and not on Wed.

He should have sent today or yesterday every available AF transport plane to NOLA - the airport is clear and had been for days. These can carry thousands to safety.

I mean if I can think of this why can't he or FEMA, whose job it is to do so.

It is suspected he has this.
  • He doesn't read.
  • He's impulsive.
  • He cannot handle frustration very well.
  • Etc.
