Wink Fleetwood Mac mention in new book

Hey guys,

A few days ago I picked up "Killing Yourself to Live" by Chuck Klostermann. He's a writer for Spin magazine. Anyway, I was delighted to find a very humorous few pages dedicated to Fleetwood Mac starting at the beginning of page 141. The book overall is pretty funny, and a good quick read. I recommend you pick it up.

*SPOILER*

part of the chapter reads like this:

Listening to my favorite album of the 70s, Rumours, by Fleetwood Mac nearly every song is about breaking up with people. For my friend Quincy and me, it became very metaphoric. We wasted way too much time debating the song "Go Your Own Way," specifically over who had the moral high ground in the lyrical argument between Buckingham and Nicks. Predictably, Quincy always took Stevie's side in the debate, and I always aligned myself with control-freak-Lindsey. "The fact that Lindsey even wrote a song like that proves he's a jackass", Quincy would say. "What kind of asshole has his ex girlfriend singing backing vocals on a song that basically accuses her of being a slut?" In retrospect that does seem vindictive, but still I think Stevie Nicks totally had it coming, especially in light of the fact that she later shacked up with Don Henley.

This is the same guy who wrote "Fargo Rock City" right? I loved that book, even if there was only one teeny tiny Stevie reference "foxy witch rock of Blue Lamp". He also said theyre one of the only bands its "ok" to like or something. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out.

There's another book with a short Fleetwood Mac mention in it, called "Behind You" by Jacqueline Woodson. One of the characters discusses how his life was affected by "Landslide," and the book is really symbolic of the song.

Sounds cool. And this may open up a can of worms...but I generally don't read books written by women.

I think the term "shackin' up" does not refer to La Nicks sleeping with Henley. I think LB uses it to refer to him asking La Nicks to marry him and she preferred living or "shackin' in" with him. Thus, the rebutted LB deceided to pack up because all she wanted to do was shack up with him.

Exactly! "Shakin up" was all she preferred to do, instead of giving him more. I always find it sort of amusing how upset Stevie says she is about the song. Methinks she is more upset that Lindsey is telling the world she didn't want to commit than anything else. He hit a nerve obviously with that line. Sometimes the truth hurts. Plus, Stevie writes whatever the heck she wants to about him!! Something like Thrown Down is a pretty blantant look into some of Lindsey's private feelings. "about how difficult it had been to be without her". (or perhaps about how Stevie percieves LB's feelings to be, based on what he is saying to her)
