when has someone gone too far?

I was curious as to where people here think the line should be drawn as far as following Stevie or Fleetwood Mac goes. For example, when I met Lindsey in 2003, I waited in the lobby of their hotel for like 2 hours. Alot of people thought I was really weird, but I look at it this way; It's really hard to meet them, and I figured this would be the best way. I dont make a habit of waiting in hotels hardly at all, in fact that has been the only time I've ever done it, and I have never cared whwere they live or anything like that. I ' curious as to what others think on this subject. BTW, I was hoping to meet Stevie on the last tour, but it became clear early on that this wasnt going to be easy so I gave up. I guess I just figured the Edge handshake was enough for me

I know. I unfortunately dont have one at the moment. Dont you still have those pictures I sent you?

I think any kind of stalker behavior is too far. No wonder celebrities need security these days. I can't imagine why anyone would want to be in the limelight. I'm pretty sure that Stevie and Lindsey and any other entertainer is out there to do what they do- entertain. I don't think coming into contact with obsessed people is on the top of any of their lists.

I think that tracking down their home addresses is crossing the line, for sure. I think that we should always respect their space and privacy. They give up a lot to be in the public eye and give us this wonderful music and the least we can do is respect their privacy in return.

BUt the interesting thing when I met Lindsey was this; when I first spproached him I could tell he was a little apprehensive, but once he figured out I was a normal guy we had a nice conversation. Even the lady at the front desk of the hotel told me I handled myself very well.

I think waiting in a public area is fine. Waiting in the hotel lobby, no big deal. Because a celeb can avoid those kind of places if they want to. There's always another entrance, and they can arrange to use it.

The line comes when it invades their privacy. Their homes are on the other side of that line, I totally agree. Another place their privacy should be respected is someplace like a restaurant. That's just invasive and rude.

Yeah, I remember at the Stevie show on 7-26 at Universal City, I saw Mick sitting with his kids like 4 seats away from me, but there was no was I was going to bother him, especially since the kids were there

Good point. When people are with their families, I think that's over the line too.

I see the term "public place" being used so often. Then I see "resteraunt" and Mick at the Stevie show. I mean, aren't those public places? The crap part is, I agree w/ both sides. Never seems to be a good time to meet a celeb. Even if in a "public" place, will trying to meet them be invading their privacy or the fact that they ARE in a public place be your only shot? It's definately a tough call!

I mean I don't think that waiting in a Hotel Lobby is a big deal. Tried it many times myself, but if you think about it, that is pre-meditaed motive. "Bumping" into them at a resteraunt or on the street= chance, IMO. So you'd be liklier to meet them at a place you didn't know they were gonna be at, but then you risk that crossing the line of personal privacy. Frankly the whole act of it makes me dizzy w/ specualtions.
I've met people at resteraunts, but I waited until they were leaving before approaching...not bomabarding their table. I have met people leaving a venue, etc. Each time you just never know. You want the opportunity to present itself, but it could always go sour. Sucks for fans.
I don't condone stalking AT ALL, but I've always wondered if the stalkers take that extra leap after so many disappointing tries.

I think hoping to find someone in a hotel lobby, or any other public place is fine. I think you cross the line when you hang out by their house or follow them if they are in a car. I know Mel Gibson had a stalker who followed him to church and he filed charges, as he should have. Celebrities get stopped in hotel lobbies all the time. I know because I worked in an upscale hotel for a few years. As long as you aren't causing a scene or bugging the crap out of the staff, they will leave you alone.

James Taylor stayed at my hotel for like two weeks back in the 80's. I was assigned to be his personal concierge. I helped him get from his room and out to a waiting car a hundred times. Only once did he say, "I can't sign any autographs in the lobby today". He was late and I helped him get out quickly. He did yell back, "I'll be back around 11:00 if you guys want to come back", to the crowd of about 20 people who came every single day.

I think most of our favorite people are very kind and understanding about stuff like this. The only person who was a real jerk about autographs was Bruce Jenner. I wanted to yell at him saying, "Oh come on you ego filled prick- you are yesterday's news!". He was very, very nasty when I saw people come up to him in the lobby.

For whatever that was worth!
