Default Anyone know this song?

I know he's popular in the UK, but I only just heard this song this week - You're Beautiful, by James Blunt.

One of the saddest songs I've ever heard. I don't love the instrumentation off the top of it, but the words are just so achingly depressing. It so appeals to the hopeless romantic in me. Here are the lyrics if you've never heard it - but it's all about how he sings it, too.

You're Beautiful

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
F**king high,
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.

Anyone else love this song?

I just downloaded it. Um...I like the music, but the lyrics are kinda campy and his voice grates on my nerves. I do, however, like the last two lines. I can totally relate to that.

It's one of the most played songs of the summer also here. I quite like it, and the video is very nice too. I don't find it that sad, it speaks of something that happens to everyone, IMO. A moment in another world meeting someone for the first and only time.

The "****ing high" part kinda ruins the song lyrically.

Um.. okay. Guess I'm on my own on this one.

Though, Curtis, I'm glad you like the last two lines, too. That's exactly what got me the first time I heard it.

I like it! It has been played to death over here though. But I do still like it!

My thoughts exactly. I'm almost sick of hearing it, but then when I do it still makes me smile.

I think his voice is one of those "emperors new music" things tho.

I'm not really that crazy about it.

Yup - there's just something about the sentiment. I love the beginning where he says, I don't know you but I have a plan. But by the end, he realizes he'll never see her again. I'm just a big old sap!!

Nicki, what do you mean by 'emperors new music?" I've never heard that term. I have a guess. I don't love his voice, but it seems perfect for the sentiment of this particular song.

"Emperors new music" is just something my friends say about people who noone has heard of who then become "the next big thing", as in a lot of people go mad for it just because they think they should.
