Hard Candy Christmas could be my fav. song - ever ... at least until I saw Anne Margaret (rocks ) "sing" it in the last tour of Best Little Whorehouse in Texas - love Anne but OY that performance

My mom and I used to watch her show in the 90's...Dolly.
OMG TOTALLY. I have an mp3 of that and even though I'm not deeply religious, it moves me to tears and I can't help but get goosebumps.

I have found strength in this song many times...I sometimes forget it's a "christmas" song...love it.

And Smoky Mtn Christmas is a staple for me. Watch it every year. Islands in the Stream is the first song I ever remember hearing. My dad used to sing it to me when I was little and it's the first song I ever sang.

You don't have to be deeply religious, she SELLS that performance like nobody's business!! Excellence.

Add me to the "I love Smokey Mountain Christmas and Hard Candy Christmas" list!

Did you see her sing "Hello God" live. I though I would die from crying when I saw her on Leno, Letterman, or some other such show. She is the trashiest class act I have ever seen

I had a thought - it would great to have Ledgie conclave at DollyWood - if for nothing else than to see Dissention's 24/7 horrified facial expression at the decor I may pay his way just to see his reaction to the bedspread in the hotel

Arrow Hello God..

No, I've never even heard of that song! If that's from her newer albums, I don't have those. Actually, I don't have ANY of her albums, my dad's got a few LPs and I've downloaded her songs from iTunes and stuff. One of these days, I'll get all her stuff.

I would love to go to Dollywood at least once, but I don't do rides folks...I get sick. Blergh.

Hello God was from "Halos and Horns" http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...music&n=507846 - which also contains the FAB. version of Sairway to Heaven.

I got to meet Dolly when I was a kid. She told me I had the prettiest red hair and was so sweet to me. I still have the autograph she gave me that day. My parents were big country music fans so I grew up listening to her, and Loretta Lynn and Johnny Cash, etc. What an amazing voice and an amazing woman!

Anyway, another neat thing about Dolly that a lot of people might not know is that in addition to Dollywood, she also owns these Dixie Stampede . . . well, I can't really describe what they are, but I guess dinner theater with horses is about as close as I can come to it. They are in Myrtle Beach SC, Orlando, FL, Pigeon Forge, TN, and in Bronson Missouri.

In the areas where she has these themeparks and the Dixie Stampedes, her non-profit organization, the Imagination Library gives out free books (1 per month) to children ages 0 to 5 years old. How's that for a great public service? There are no income limits or anything-you just sign your kid up, and once a month, they receive a free, age-appropriate book. What a terrific way to give back to the community and foster the love of reading!

Dolly's cool. I'm not crazy about her pop material from the late '70s and '80s, but I like her earlier work, and her recent bluegrass stuff. Although I don't have Halos & Horns...I can't really stomach God/Christo-centric music. I love Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose album, but that song "God Makes No Mistakes" is so ignorant that it's hilarious, although I'm sure she didn't mean it to be.

Anyway...getting off-topic.

There's a Dolly compilation (not really a best-of) called Mission Chapel Memories that collects her early '70s folky, singer-songwritery country material that I love a lot.

OMG - that would be the funnest thing evah!!!

I've always wanted to go to Dollywood - I still hope to make it there one day - I tried to get there last year when she was giving some Christmas concerts -but they sold out fast and I never made it.

I've never seen any of those on video anywhere...
Well I'm talking about the ABC show from the 1980s myself. The only reason I have them on tape is because my dad used to record it back when it was on and kept a load of them. They're great fun to watch.

A Ledgie conclave to Dollywood would be a hoot. Especially if we *ALL* wore blonde Dolly wigs the whole time we were there...

And the giggle. We must all practice the giggle. And let it rip at each and every opportunity.
